Roadrunner Records have struck a real gem with Khoma, taking them away from the hard rock/metal stylings they are so used to. Khoma are a band comprised of JOHANNES PERSSON, FREDRIK KIHLBERG and JAN JAMTE (The 2 former members recognisable from 'cult of luna'). They play a mixture of guitar and piano fuelled ballads resembling the works, of the likes of Muse or Radiohead (definately recommended for fans of these bands).
The album opens with 'The Guillotine', this track is based around a deep guitar hum with a slow drum beat over the top. The 'high pitched' clean vocals take a front seat and merge beautifully with strings to produce an epic album opener.
The first 'sample track' to be released from the album, 'Stop Making Speeches' opens with a light repeated gitar riff accompanied by a light drum beat. Various layers are added with extra guitar parts. The verse begins with a light vocal hum followed by a quick, loud guitar before breaking into the energetic chorus.
The album follows this similar pattern of relaxed verses and energetic chorus, but never causes the listener to reach for the volume control to 'turn the noise down'. There is a fine balance between the soft vocals and the lightly distorted guitars, making Khoma perfect for ANY fan of 'rock', whether you like EMO/Punk, or Metal.
There is not one 'filler track' on the album, with each standing out, containing its own unique element to give it a different sound to the others. My personal favourites are the new single Medea, Stop Making Speeches and the staggering Hyenas.
This new band really have to be heard to be believed, I cannot do the album enough justice in writing, I can only recommend this album to everybody, as no matter your primary taste in music, this is likely to find its way into your heart!
10/10
A true masterpiece.

Whispering Dark Metal !!... Is how I would describe this album ..Khoma have certainly have struck a chord with Roadrunner Records here, This Swedish band have produced one of the best albums I have heard this side of 2006..it takes you somewhat into a journey of fear and relief and they portray their beliefs perfectly through every note they sing, of who they are, what they believe in and what they stand for, I would describe Khoma as a mix between Tool and Radiohead with a bit of Muse thrown in, so fans of this type of music ,Definitely pick yourself up a copy.

The album begins with "The Guillotine" this in my opinion sets the mood for the whole album. Like the beginning of a story almost similar to an Indian drum call it then kicks in to the mellowing and haunting lyrics. The second track "Stop making speeches" .again with the familiar thundering drum beats, perfectly balanced vocals and guitar riffs this is one of my fave tracks from the album. By the third track "If All Else Fails" I find myself somehow falling into trance from the awesome guitar riffs and powerful lyrics

With"Medea" my second fave track from the album, I have never heard music played with so much passion and sincerity, The piano that announces "Hyenas" is so calming and mellow, such soothing powerful lyrics, guitar solos, the continuous steady beat of the drum.. This is where I am totally lost in the album now,

Khoma proves that this is the most amazing album you will ever hear, Towards the last few songs "Asleeps" "Last Call" "1909 08 04" and "One of Us Must Hang" with its closing 2 minute instrumental it is like a sad ending to this great album. Which leaves you wanting more .Its a change from the metal music Roadrunner portrays normally but they certainly know a good thing when they hear it..

After listening to this album many times, I can safely say that Khoma deserve recognition. Signed to Roadrunner Records in the UK and featuring Johannes from Cult of Luna, you would automatically presume this band to reach expectations, but they definitely achieve more than that and could potentially appeal to more than just a 'rock music fan'.

Starting off with the eerie 'Guillotine', slow pounding drums and a beautiful countermelody joining in on strings after the first verse, perfectly soft vocals and vocal harmony, the listener is drawn in by 'Guillotine'. Such a soothing and captivating track, which is followed by 'Stop Making Speeches', more of a mid tempo track with a fantastic vocal melody, which becomes particularly powerful at the chorus. The entire track becomes more 'gripping' at the ending. Next in line is 'If All Else Fails'.

Again, lovely melodies throughout, intro to this track stands out the most with its guitar sound. This track is followed by the video track for the album, 'Medea'. As well as the track being fantastic in itself, the video is pretty brilliant too, with strange atmosphere, it makes a pleasant contradiction with the wonderful music!

Hyenas, the most down tempo track on the album, spine chilling in a sense. Very relaxing music, slow drum beat and gorgeous piano part, which then takes the listener back into another mid tempo track, 'Through Walls' along with its unforgettable chorus.

'Like Coming Home', has an intro where the guitar comes in first playing long notes. Amazing chorus in this track, especially the drum beat. 'Asleeps', is more of a piano focused track, slow in tempo, again, relaxing music and easy to listen to. The only track on the album that doesn't have drums.
