The fourth book in the Monarchies of God saga, combining destruction, religion, a great hero, war, excitement and magic
Winter lies cold and dark upon the world; it seems that spring will never come. Once dismissed as the ravings of a crazed hermit, the prophecies of Honorius seem at last to be coming true. In the harbour of Old Abrusio, the Gabrian Osprey lies docked at last, home from her long voyaging. Only a handful of shocked survivors remain of that proud expedition that set forward almost a year before ...but they are not alone. Something has come with them from the uttermost west.See all Product description

There was a lot of character development in the previous book leaving this one free to focus on the political manipulation and on a lot more action than the previous books.
The pace of this book is very quick with most of it centred on Corfe as he battles for control of Torunn and against the Merduks.
There are a few twists and turns at the end leaving everything set up for the conclusion of the series.
