"I ain't done nothing wrong."
Sheriff Mitchell Hammond doesn't believe that for one minute. But the boy has been caught on Cora Beth's land and she is the one who comes to his rescue.
Cora Beth decides to take Ethan & his sister Cissy into her patchwork family comprising of her late husband's Uncle Grover, her 12 year old brother, & her 3 young daughters. However, the town has other ideas, bringing up concerns that she is unmarried & runs a boarding house - how can she take on another two children. Won't they be better off in an orphanage?
Mitch is guarding a wounded heart, & had vowed long ago he would never marry. Hearing the town council pronounce Cora Beth unfit to have Ethan & Cissy in her care however, makes him reconsider. If he offered Cora Beth a marriage of convenience, she would be able to keep the children, Ethan & Cissy would have a home, & he would have a family...everyone wins, right?
A wounded hearted sheriff, a sweet widow, a lovable set of children, matchmaking relatives...and romance - a sweet historical and faith filled story by Winnie Griggs.
