I caught an episode of this show on TV one morning whilst half asleep and had to rent the rest.

It follows the adventures of a human boy named Finn and his dog, Jake, who for some reason can change his body shape into weird things.

Finn seems to be the only human in a world of weird creatures and he and Jake spend their time trying to be honest adventurers, saving other folk and getting into scrapes.

Firstly, if you're not into weird cartoons that don't make sense then this isn't for you as the stories are completely out there, many making no sense at all and, being a cartoon, can be quite ridiculous.

The drawings are very simple, except when a character gets emotional, then the face detail changes into very weird, slightly disturbing Meme type drawings. But they can be some of the funniest moments.

The themes in the episodes are probably not intended for children but most things, such as a king who has a fetish for kidnapping girls, a ghost who lives inside Finns belly-button or a crazy man who turns a bird inside out, will probably go over their heads as they are all done is such a comedic way.

If you like Spongebob and remember Ren and Stimpy and Rocco's Modern Life then this will be right up your street.

Look out for the waiving snail in each episode too...

I absolutely love Adventure Time, it's one of the most funniest and creative cartoons ever made and Cartoon Network's most popular show (Nickelodeon must be kicking themselves for not picking this show up, they passed on it TWICE!).

I was excited that the show was getting multiple DVD releases in the states, especially when they came out with a Complete Season One box set. I was really tempted to buy myself a copy, when I heard that there was going to be a Region 2 release, I held fire and waited for it to come out. I own a multi-region DVD player, but I thought it'd be a lot simpler just to wait for the Region 2 release, it's more accessible around the house then, plus I can take it with me wherever I go and can play it on my computer.

For some strange reason, they kept changing the release date, I think it was originally coming out in September or October, but when the day came, they changed it to December 9th, so I had to wait some more! "Come on, lemme buy Adventure Time already, this is painful!", I thought to myself. While waiting, they revealed the cover, which I thought was OKAY, but I really did prefer the cover they had for region 1, which is funny cause my friends in the states think the region 1 cover is weird, but I liked it! I'd much rather have that than the one we got.

So FINALLY the DVD came out, I bought it, played all three discs on the DVD player and was saddened to discover that there's NO SPECIAL FEATURES ON ANY OF THE DISCS. I couldn't believe it, so I double checked to see what was missing from the region 2 release that's on region 1.

Commentary, animatics, behind the scenes featurette, behind the scenes of the behind the scenes featurette, a music video and more!

NONE OF THESE ARE ON THIS SET.

I just love Adventure Time - I got introduced to it by my niece and nephew and have since recorded multiple episodes to watch and rewatch. My planner is pretty much full of Adventure Time, so I'm pleased to see a DVD release for Region 2, even if as yet there's no release date. Nicely dark and witty, each episode guarantees several laugh-out-loud moments. It's the most offbeat, hilarious thing I've seen on the Cartoon Network - or anywhere else, for that matter.

I figure if you've got this far, you know the programme so I don't need to go into the genius of the set-up (Jake the Dog and Finn the Human living in the land of Ooo), the wild imagination, and characters like Lumpy Space Princess, Tree Trunks the apple pie loving mini elephant, the Ice King, the insane and unhappy Lemon Grab, Princess Bubblegum (she's made of bubblegum, you see), and Marceline the vampire who eats the colour red.

However, I will add this, for no reason other than it's my favourite quote from anything ever. It's said by Jake's dad to his wife when they find Finn as a baby:

"You just kissed a Boom-Boom baby, so don't expect any more sugar from me, sweetheart, until we wash your dirty, dirty face."

Adventure Time is a series that I've repeatedly heard about since its initial 2010 release, but I never ended up watching it, since it was on Cartoon Network, and thus was unlikely to be on my TV without extra subscription payments for the extra digital channels and the like. Now that the DVD is finally here, though (With the Amazon release date a bit later for some odd reason), I decided to buy it to see what the fuss was about.

Those of you who've been around on the internet as long as I have may remember the flash cartoon series, "Homestar Runner", and its particular brand of straight-faced surreal humour that, in the words of TV Tropes, feels like a mixture between a children's show and a parody of a children's show. Adventure Time follows a similar format, albeit with more elements of high fantasy thrown in, and with Homestar Runner's numerous Generation X pop culture references taken out. What we have is a series which has definitely held my attention, since you'll want to keep watching from episode to episode just to see which ways it defies expectations. The shows unpredictable nature really does itself a favour, both in terms of the fast-paced humour, the various bizarre character traits, and the fantastically-smooth animation.

The characters themselves are also memorable and well-acted. John DiMaggio does a fantastic job as Jake The Dog, even if the voice he adopted is rather distractingly-similar to his Bender voice, while the other notable voice actor I can remember is Lumpy Space Princess, who is given a pretty funny vocal performance by series creator Pendleton Ward.
