Now, there was nothing that was particularly offensive in this book - it filled in the back story to not only this series but the first trilogy too. However, I found myself becoming slightly irritated at certain points in the story... Often it felt as if the scene was being laid, the chess pieces were being moved and characters was going to react in a certain manner whether it rang true or not.... In truth, at points Casey became very "whiny" and less likeable for me when her absurd behaviour helped move the plot forward.
In my opinion, there is just enough story to keep you turning the page - I do feel as if it is leading up to an epic third book, but the cliff hanger at the end seemed very abrupt and not totally satisfying. I will go back and read the previous books in case I missed something - but it feels as if the author had been told by her editor that she needed something "shocking" to hook her readers for the next book and then fabricated this ending in a great hurry. If there have been hints to this reveal - then sadly they went over my head - and I'm sure I won't be alone.
I will read the next book as I am interested to see where the story might go and how the author develops this major plot-line. I have also invested in and genuinely enjoy the character of Toby; I hope to see him evolve and conquer the challenges that will undoubtedly trouble him in the coming book.
My advice is to enjoy the book, but go into viewing it as a building block rather than a comprehensive story in its own right.
I wish this could be a rave review - but I appreciate fair warning - so this is mine to you.
Casy and Toby both come to terms of family and wars, and all the reasons of why they should stay apart, but who doesn't want what they can't have? The problem is everyone seems to want Casy for whatever reasons they have, no one realises she doesn't belong to them, her heart lies with one person. x
Again another great read, the plot, and writing are good. The characters again come together. Huge amounts of angst, lots of twists and turns. Some very sweet romantic moments as well as hot sexy ones. Diving right into the next book, would recommend.
