Along with Search & Destroy vol.2, this book contains as much passion, depth and integrity that you will find in any tome penned by fans for fans. Not only does Search & Destroy focus on local obscure San Francisco Bands (i.e. The Avengers, Nuns, etc) but also has great, lost interviews with contemporary punk heros who have now entered the annals of musical history - The Clash, Patti Smith, Talking Heads, to name a few. This fanzine had it's finger so firmly on the pulse of the late 70's punk scene that it ripped out the veins of any other 'zines at the time and threw them back in their faces. This was the American equivelent of Sniffin'Glue and 100 times better. Excellent articles of cult heroes also, such as William Burroughs, Russ Myer, John Waters, and J.G.Ballard. One criticism, due to 70's myopia, the fanzine sympathises with the Baader-Meinhof Terrorist organisation - still, this was the voice of the rebellious youth. Also check out Punk 77 by James Stark, featuring photos and commentary of the San Francisco Punk scene before it imploded.
