I hate writing bad reviews but this worked ok for 9 months then the driver reading and writing heads failed and I’ve has to send it off for data retrevial. It was in warranty but Seagate were incredibly unhelpful. You have to go through their labs to get another drive (which I don’t want), .it cost £50 and then another £220 to possibly get my images back. Wouldn’t recommend.

Very disappointed with the performance of this product. Also that I have to foot the bill for shipping this back to Seagate, what a farce. The drive lasted only 4 weeks before issues started happening, I would go into a folder of images and find that some of my RAW files or JPEGS were unreadable and then I started getting errors saying the drive was corrupt. I have other drives that were working, only this one was causing the issues. Editing images that were on the drive rendered my whole PC unusable. Customer help at SEAGATE initially blames me using Win XP as the issue (I don't, I have windows 7 and it's a fresh install, not an upgrade) Then it was possibly some other piece of hardware to blame, yet all the other drives worked. Eventually, they said I could return it for a free replacement, (yep I'm having to pay the postage and I already paid over £100 for the drive) so I hardly think it's a free replacement. When trying to clear the folders that are already on the drive, it won't even let me delete those so information that should be private will now be in the hands of SEAGATE.

This hard drive failed on me with colossal consequences.

I lost 1.5TB data, pictures, music, movies, work files.

Do not know the cause - it wasn't knocked, or dropped. It was merely connected to my computer and had (what sounds like) a mechanical malfunction. Drive now clicks clicks clicks and does not get recognised by the computer.

I have had it looked at (taken apart - I know this voids the warranty) by a specialist and they said they told me to send it away to a data recovery specialist - which i have done.

Still waiting to hear back to see if my data is recoverable.

Dont think I will be using Seagate again - not very impressed at all.

I need to use this new Seagate hard disc - now purchased 4 months ago - but it doesn't work. No power light. Nothing. And I have no idea why. But it's got my powerpoint files on it. And Amazon give zero options for return or warranty repair. So it's £48 down the swannee with a few files on it. I have no idea what to do. I didn't need to use it other than once when it was first purchased - but I do need to use it now. And it's dead as a dodo. And nothing it seems I can do about it.

A year later with very little usage and it seized up on me

I had experienced this issue a few times, but had problems with my PC at the time. I have drives which work perfectly fine and have no error rates. I did a clean fresh install of Windows 10 recently and have a stable system. None of my other drives have any errors (I checked with software) and were still functioning properly when the portable broke. It seized up unexpectedly when trying to undo a movement of a large amount of files. It only just occurred to me today after it seized up, this always happened when I'm copying/moving files within the drive itself, but it always worked after a reboot. This time the drive wasn't accessible. In Disk Management it simply said it was 'unknown'. Tried other USB ports, same issue. The drive was active with no rattling or odd noises and the indicator was working, and simply gave me the 'Request Failed Due To A Fatal Device Hardware Error' when I tried to initialize. And then it didn't even give me the option ever again. Brilliant.

Small, lightweight, quiet drive, fully runs on USB power, fast and reliable. Perfect for backups, pleasant to use. Responds instantly when plugged into a USB 3 port on Windows 10.

You can just plug in the drive and use Windows' backup software if you want.

If you partition this drive with a 32GB FAT32 and the rest as NTFS you can create both a Windows recovery drive and image backup on the same disk.

I made an effort to avoid the Seagate software, I could see it cluttering up Windows, starting itself up on its own, being a bit clunky etc. I've become really fussy about software recently, and without good management there is some really bad software being produced - no disrespect to Seagate, I never even tried it, just sticking to known quality without wishing to risk another half-baked attempt at someting that doesn't respect the users' computers on which they are gratiously allowed to be installed. I think hardware manufacturers should put all their software costs towards testing and quality control.
