I ended up buying two of these; there was a problem with delivery on one; but Amazon were helpful and replaced quickly. However; after 16 months, one of the two has failed. And without any warning - a complete catastrophic failure of some part of the drive. I've removed the drive and plugged it into a PC, and it's simply not recognised as existing.
That said, it was in use as a backup device. So I've lost my backup and backup history; but as my main hard drive hasn't failed, it's not the end of the world; I've just replaced it with a Western Digital device.
The second drive, however, sits at home with family photographs on it - I'll be taking steps to replace / back that up for sure. (Edit at 22 months) - switched the second drive on last night and was invited to format it, as it was an unrecognised disk. For me, these are just a little bit too cheap. Happily, all my family photos not reside on a Western Digital "My Passport Ultra" drive; all I lost were a bunch of files I'd backed up elsewhere. I won't be buying Seagate again!
