Internally this is Seagate Archive drive ST8000AS0002 which sells for about 10% more which is a bit crazy considering the extra cost of the case and usb hub... Being an archive drive it does have slow write speeds, uses more power and with that gets hotter. As the name of the internal drive implies it's meant to be used for archival or backup purposes where you write infrequently.
Running an extended smart test it got to 56C within 30 minutes. This is over the failure threshold which is 55C. Far from ideal but occasional extended heavy usage won't kill the drive.
The internal ST8000AS0002 drives seem reliable so far with 10 drives working well after at least 1 year each. Considering my usage scenario is mostly "write once - read sometimes" and the low cost it's a good buy. USB hub is also handy and adds some value.
