I reallyenjoyed this. It was light but not frothy and the characters were engaging. The Cornish setting is evocative and the families are people everyone knows. There are no major happenings in the book but one finds it matters what the outcomes will be for the two young people. My favourite character was Cassie, Martha's mum, because she is every mum without losing her own identity as an individual. I hope there will be a sequel to this novel. I want to know what happens next and that is a pretty good recommendation for a book which is essentially a light read.
I wasn't sure about this book when I realised that the protagonist is an adolescent girl throughout, I had assumed it was going to fast forward at some point! I did however get totally absorbed in the story and reallyenjoyed the dual narrative.
A very enjoyable bit of escapism where you really understand the characters feelings and care about what happens - I would love to know what happened next!
I reallyenjoyed this book. It evokes memories of family holidays and learning about life. Told through the eyes of a girl and her mother it is a warm and engaging read with gentle humour and starring roles for both Cornwall and the British weather.
In the recent bleak weather with sea stirred i was transported to cornwall and to the seaside. I thoroughly enjoyed this read it really took me in. One minute the flush of first love and reminiscing the next i am on the flip side wondering how i will feel when this is my own stepdaughter in a few years time! This is a tale of love, family and finding yourself and it kept me interested and eager till the end. Id like a second one now to find out what happens :)
