Fishing is my favourite hobby, and this book was easy to read and understand.
It has good pictures along with hints and tips and there is a good section on tying knots which I have now learnt how to tie and have helped when I have been fishing.
A really good point is that the sentences are not too long but still remain informative.
It also shows you what different fish look like and would help identify a fish if you caught one.
I think this book would be good for ages 11 and upwards and for girls as well as boys. I also think that it is a good read for experienced fishermen too.
I rate this book 9/10

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 30 October 2014Not the full explaination expected. There was no section on setting drag once cast although it was refered to in some sections. Theer was useful reference material about general places to expect certain fish but not enough to justify the price. I read the book in just over an hour!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 16 October 2013I decided to take up fishing after trying and enjoying it with a friend. I am a complete novice and knew nothing about fishing. I purchased the basics; rod, reel, hooks, weights etc...but did not have a clue on exactly what to do. Within 10 minutes of purchasing this book, I made my own rigs following the instructions, went out to the marina and to my surprise caught a number of whiting, ling, and a sand Ray. I refer to this book all of the time and would recommend it to any novice sea fisherman...or woman as it is clearly written and so easy to understand.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 23 October 2011As a complete novice to sea fishing I needed a straight forward and easily digestable book on the subject. There are amny such books available and making a choice is not easy, unless you are able to visit a bookshop. I read the various comments and reviews and decided to take a chance, at a very price, on this book.
I have found the text to be straight forward and the diagrams (drawings) of knots etc ok. I am not sure this would be for an accompished angler but for me, for now, it's a good plaice to start.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 21 July 2014Lots of useful information about sea fishing. Good sections on the fish most often seen off the shores of the British Isles, how to construct your own rigs, the difference between ledgers and paternosters and their uses and advice on choosing the best rigs for the type of fishing you hope to do. It won't turn you into an expert but starts you off in a good direction.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 24 June 2024I thought this would be a simple guide to sea fishing but there is a lot of text which is hard to read. There are a lot of illustrations of different knots in one section but no explanation about what they are used for
