Compared to other low profile coolers it was pretty expensive, however I have my doubts that most of these would have matched the stock cooler performance with my CPU. Overall I am pretty happy and believe I have achieved what I wanted, a much quieter cooler without losing any performance.
One word to other newbie Cooler fitters like myself. The first time I installed this I spread the supplied thermal compound on the cpu. To my horror, the temp under load reached 70+. Refitting using a small blob of MX4 in the centre cured the problem. Also remember to remove the plastic protective cover from the base, easily forgotten.
The cooler does come with some scythe thermal paste, although I advise getting some arctic MX-4 paste. Its not got metal in it so there isnt a chance of you shorting your board if it spills. It cools very well. I was playing GTA IV on medium/high settings, with mods, using just the intel HD 4000 (comes built in the processor) and temperatures werent going over 55c. As I said the thermal paste hasnt had time to settle so the temperatures will likely drop some more.
I am yet to the hear the fan spin up louder, as even when gaming the speed remains low. As I am writing this review, downloading about 5 games at once, listening to youtube, and host a minecraft server, my highest core temperature is 44c. If you are building a low profile PC, definatly consier this. I have had no issues fitting my Corsair Vengeance LOW PROFILE RAM underneath it.
It keeps the CPU temperature down and the computer stays quiet.
Just be wary that the heatsink/fan is large and you may have clearance problems fitting it into some cases.
However the result is a very well cooled processor, and the fan is hardly audible. I would not hesitate to give 5 stars if the instructions were clearer.
