In summary, the book is more about the early experiences of the author in what interested him in scrum, the course he then went on and the experience he had since then - in the process mentioning a few times his other book if you want to actually learn something about scrum. This book teaches nothing about scrum and is just a micro biography of the author's timeline into his career around scrum.
Waterfall can be much better than this, and is often what your customers do. Unless you have a good product owner, empowered to make the decisions that are needed, scrum is doomed and you have to make waterfall work.
That said, if you have the right product owner, scrum can be brilliant. It's all about empowerment, but if the building blocks are not there, you need to adapt.
