This performance of 3rd symphony is amazingly vivid and grand, and well matches Muti's famous EMI account in every respect. But Poem of Ecstacy is even better. In fact the most incandescent and overwhelming performance I've ever known. It surpasses even Svetlanov's very powerful later accounts. Sound quality is as amazing as the performance. Scriabin must be very happy in his grave!

I got this disc [of the recording by Pletnev on DGG. not the Golovanov!] on the basis of two favourable mentions on Amazon, but how tastes differ! Of the seven recordings I have heard of this work, I count this the least satisfactory. Faultily faultless -- well-shaped, tastefully phrased, but bland and characterless. And the recording is mediocre. I could only recommend this recording to someone who dislikes Scriabin and finds that more committed performances put his teeth on edge.

One wonders whether the same issue is being assessed. The Music Online reissue, so far as I can discover, only contains the Divine Poem. It is the Boheme reissue from 1999 that also includes the Poem of Ecstasy (in a stunning performance). The Boheme Divine Poem is somewhat harsh-sounding in a way that invites a treble reduction; yet it is amazingly vital and intense, especially in the strings, maintaining momentum through a work that can seem unequal and episodic.
