Sam Hawkins is an undercover agent with orders to assassinate Viscount Dunthorpe, a very powerful, traitorous man. Little does Sam know that Lady Elise Dunthorpe witnesses his supposedly secret order, and he's left with no choice but to take her prisoner. So begins a game of seduction that will leave Sam and Elise getting closer to each other, but could secrets lurking beneath the surface tear them apart?
The Scoundrel's Seduction focuses on undercover agents and men with dangerous jobs rather than just rakes who do nothing but fence all day. It's a different take on this period in history and not one I was familiar with before - I never really thought that these well-to-do men would run around killing people instead of simply looking for a suitable wife. I liked this aspect of the story and the idea that all this could have been happening behind closed doors while always being shrouded in secrecy and out of the public eye.
Sam and Elise are good characters to get to know, and I warmed to them straight away. Sam has lot of family troubles that are explained as the novel progresses, while Elise has a lot more to her than meets the eye. Their romance is one that naturally progresses and never feels forced, and their devotion to each other is apparent with every exchange of words. There's not quite as much romance as I was expecting actually, due to there being a lot more going on in the story. Not that it's a bad thing, of course!Read more ›

Provided he carries out his orders -- usually quietly kidnapping or assassinating traitors -- he is left alone and out of the spotlight, which suits him just fine. No more close friendships or marriages for Sam, thank you.
Until he's forced to kidnap a French noblewoman, who witnessed him killing her English husband.
Elise, Viscountess Dunthorpe, is beautiful, intelligent, and has many tragic secrets of her own. The last thing she wants are romantic feelings for her captor. She just wants to escape from him. She's sure Sam feels the same way about her.
But Sam and Elise are slowly, inexorably drawn together by an inexplicable attraction -- even though Sam believes that Elise aided her husband's treason and may be planning to kill him -- and Elise believes that Sam will eventually kill her --
And that's just the first two chapters!
Watching this romance develop, with surprising plot twists and turns in almost every chapter, is quite rewarding. Both Sam and Elise have strong senses of humor, so passionate words and actions don't turn the book maudlin or unbelievable.
(Bonus: Sex in the novel is very explicit for everyone who likes that.)
The novel also has a sub-plot, the final resolution of the disappearance of Sam's mother, the widowed Duchess of Trent, who vanished about a year before the story begins. You don't need to have read the two previous books in the "House of Trent" series to enjoy this book, as each book in the series is self-contained and explains what happened in earlier books.
This is Sam Hawkins and Elise, Lady Dunthorpe's story! Sam is an undercover agent, the eldest, albeit the illegitimate son of the Dowager of Trent, and devoted to his country. Elise, is the wife of a traitor, and a witness to his demise at the hands of Sam, who was sent to assassinate the traitor, Lord Dunthorpe. Sam was left with only two options, kill Elise, who witness the assassination or take her prisoner....can he trust her or was she a part of the traitor's plot?
Follow, Elise, and Sam as their navigate the waters of passion, betrayal, trust, seduction, adventure, danger, and love. Oh, and we find out the mystery of the missing Dowager Trent, which started this whole adventure in book 1.
Sam and Elise have many obstacles and dangers to overcome if they are to risk their hearts and save Elise's life. Oh, I forgot to mention, Sam has been ordered to eliminate Elise, as a possible threat to the country. Fast paced and filled with passion and love. I love the way Ms. Haymore brings the Trent siblings together, how they work together to help each other no matter the consequences or the reasons. Ms. Haymore is a wonderful storyteller who writes with passion, and fills the reader with romance and warmth. A must read Historical Romance. Rather you enjoy historical romance, or romance itself, this is a great tale of romance, love and seduction. Received for an honest review.

When Sam Hawkins assassinates a traitor, he never imagined the traitor's wife would witness it. Knowing he can't leave a witness to turn him in, he takes her with him.
Elise, Lady Dunthorpe, can't believe that her husband was just murdered in front of her and the killer is making her go with him. Not knowing who he is and why he killed her husband, Elise does everything in her power to get away from him.
Realizing that she is not going to get away from Sam, Elise makes the best of her situation. And when someone tries to kill her, Elise must put her life in the hands of her husband's killer. But as they spend more time to together, Elise realizes there is more to Sam than she first realized.
As they run from her would-be killer, Elise and Sam fight their growing attraction to each other. How can Elise be falling for her husband's killer?
I knew when Haymore wrote Sam's story it would be a good one. I was definitely not disappointed!
Haymore does an excellent job of pealing away the layers of her characters which definitely draws the reader into the story. Sam was such an enigma in the other stories, I was excited to learn what made him into the man he was. Haymore paired Sam with Elise, who had just as many secrets. As their relationship grew, they both revealed more of their past which in turn made them grow closer together. They were the perfect match!
The story of the missing Dowager Duchess of Trent, which ran through the other two stories, continues with this story and adds an added element of mystery. We get to see Sam's siblings again, which is always a treat. I hope that Haymore will be continuing this series as I would love to read their stories.

Welcome back to Jennifer Haymore's House of Trent. The Scoundrel's Seduction is book Three in this delightful series and Ms. Haymore once again delights.
The Dowager Duchess of Trent is still missing and the family is getting desperate. But they finally have a clue. The family splits up, some to follow the clues and the rest to continue on with their business. Trying to make it look like all is normal with The House of Trent.
Elise, Lady Dunthorpe has been trapped in a disastrous marriage for eleven years. Married to a force of evil at the age of seventeen, she has done all she can to just survive. But when she realizes that her husband US caught up with something that could destroy her world, she knows it's time to act. Only someone else has acted first. Elise funds herself a witness to her husband's murder.
Samson Hawkins, the illegitimate son of The Duchess of Trent, grew up knowing that he was alone. His brothers and sisters adore him but he feels that he is ever on the outside looking in. A widower twice over Sam has turned his back on dreams of family. Now he serves a secret government agency, committed to saving the crown and it's interests. Ordered to kill the Earl of Dunthorpe everything has been planned down to the last detail except no one even dreams that Lady Dunthorpe will be spying on the meeting. Forced to take her into protective custody Sam and Elise find themselves on the run.
Sam has to decide if he can trust Elise is she part if her husband's treasonous behavior or is she what she appears? Can she possibly be attracted to him? The man who killed her husband? And what does she know? What secrets is she hiding?
Elise on the other hand has to deal with some intense emotions. Finally free of her husband she finds herself held captive in silken chains. How can she possibly want this man? And how can she survive the future that seems to be in store for her?
While Sam and Elise are doing everything they can to deny their attraction, others are pointing fingers and placing the blame on Elise. On the run the stumble on the rest of his family searching for the Dowager Duchess. Family and career come to a collision and Sam discovers what is truely important.
Another great House of Trent story I did worry just a bit because it seems like this might be the end if the series. And that can't be there are three more siblings that need to find love. I am looking forward to reading about the rest if the family.

Sam Hawkins is an undercover agent that has devoted his life to protecting both his country and king. He doesn’t question his mission even when he is given orders to assassinate a ruthless traitor. Sam didn’t know his deed had a witness though. The betrayer’s mysterious and beautiful wife saw what Sam did. Now he has no choice but to take her and make her his prisoner. A prisoner he can neither resist nor trust.
Elise, Lady Dunthorpe is determined to do anything to escape her captor. Even if what she must do is seduce him senseless. She had no idea what her miserable husband had done but she also has secrets of her own. Those secrets threaten everything she holds dear. Sam’s gentle touch and piercing eyes inflame Elise but can she trust the man that won’t let her go? Sam is caught between the crown he is sworn to serve and the woman who has quickly become everything to him, the woman he loves. Sam will risk everything his heart and his life if necessary to keep her safe.
This is another great book in a series that is proving to be a very good surprise. The mystery that is woven through the books that keep the books tied together and yet each one holds up on its own. While the books can read as standalone books they are much better read in order as there is so much information and clues that help build the central plot of the books. This story as some great action that moves the story along at a fast pace and will have the reader turning the pages just to see what will happen next. The twists and turns that this one takes makes for a wonderful read. It is nice to see Sam get his happy ever after. This one will also leave readers hungry for more from this world that has been built with each and every book up until now.
