It covers most Scottish Country Dances in use today and filters out some of the less popular officially published Royal Society dances. A few of the Drewery dances are included as well as some of the very popular "unofficial" ones.
The diagrams are very intuitive and easy to become familiar with. The reader is soon able to visualise a dance more quickly than reading the words. However, some previous knowledge is required of the various formations (Rondel, Set and Link, Targe etc.) as explaining these in detail is not the intention of the authors.
A very useful memory jog for those who only dance occasionally and for those whose repertoir is so wide that it is impossible to rember them all.
Choreography in diagrams are included for most Scottish Country Dances in use today, selected from the RSCDS officially published dances and others such as a few of the John Drewery dances and many other "unofficial" ones that keep coming up at the local Ball.
Very handy small sized pocket edition as an "at a glance" aid memoir. Some of the finer points are not included but most dances can easily be interpreted from the diagrams even if the dance is not known beforehand, they really are that good.
It is assumed that the reader knows the various formations used in SCD such the Rondel, Knot, Targe, Pousette etc. and a relative beginner might need more detailed instructions about these but this does not detract from the usefulness of the book to those of us with less than a perfect memory.
