The Ritchies bring to life a missing segment of the story of the early people in this area. My search for the flow of my ancestors, based firstly on DNA, has allowed me to consider the move of people from Ireland into Scotland. The archaeology is there and continues to need interpretation. Trying to trace back our family lines becomes a silly game, but trying to understand who we are from whence we came is more promising. The Ritchies give lots to chew on in this small volume.
It would be helpful to have an update on many of the sections in the book. The text is the same as the original, even though the reprint carries a new preface for the edition. On the other hand, the interpretation may be as good as we will get.
