This collection loses two stars due to the fact that it's only four episodes long! Really, Amazon? FOUR episodes? You couldn't have noted that in the product description?
"Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated" is a welcome change from the malaise that was formed by the former series' success. This reboot, whilst borrowing elements from the darker films like "Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island" and "Scooby-Doo and the Witch's Ghost", depicts the gang as a group of high-school students living in Crystal Cove, a New England town that uses its history of hauntings and paranormal happenings as a tourist magnet, and the investigations of the group are far from welcome.
There is an over-reaching story arc that covers the entire series, gradually pieced together episode by episode. The first four episodes on this disc introduce this mystery to us, and people new to the show will certainly start thinking about what is going on.
Another welcome change is placing the spotlight on the Velma / Shaggy relationship. Of course, other fans will be astounded by the idea that Velma and Shaggy could be a couple. I am not going to argue how strong a pairing might be, but I will say that, with the Fred / Daphne relationship discussed in almost all mediums of the franchise, it is a nice change to see Velma get a little more screen-time than usual.
On the whole, a brilliant series, and one for all "Scooby-Doo" fans everywhere.
Being a 'slightly older' Scooby Doo fan I hadn't actually seen this on tv but after finding it online I thought id give it a try compared to the stupid individual DVD's out there which only contain like 4 episodes in each release! -so this works out better value for money with over 20 episodes in all.
Had read a review elsewhere that the episodes gradually get scarier but I personally found them scary from the get-go! -obviously i am not talking blood-curdling terror but you know -for a kids show it can get pretty intense.
Its 100% worth getting & watching -I would say I actually preferred this series compared to the Whats New Scooby Doo series.
& if you are a fan of the old original Scooby Doo episodes like me you will love the episode "Mystery Solvers Club State Finals". You also get hints of the old music & designs in some of the other episodes to -so keep a look out.
The first episode starts the story off & after that it continues on through, I like how the characters don't forget what they have seen, said, done etc from previous episodes -so you & them keep up with the story.
I do have to mention though I did find some bad points:
*Firstly there is no intro song to the episodes -just a tune (it grows on you).
*Very basic/cheap looking DVD layout of episode selection (honestly I could have done a better job).
*On the third/forth discs be careful not to forget the 'tiny' arrow at the bottom of the screen where extra episodes hide!
*(Could just be my copy) but with every episode I had to change the audio input to English as it likes switching to French???
*Shame not longer episode durations. You 'just' start getting into it & suddenly....Read more ›
