Fourth live-action/CGI-animated children's adventure comedy based on the Hanna-Barbera cartoon series. Shaggy (Nick Palatas), Velma (Hayley Kiyoko), Daphne (Kate Melton), Fred (Robbie Amell) and Scooby-Doo (voice of Frank Welker) go to work at Uncle Thorny (Ted McGinley)'s country club in Erie Point during their summer holiday. When a big green creature shows up at the club, causing chaos, Thorny loses a great deal of his customers so the gang decide to help him by investigating the legendary curse of the lake monster...
Off to a resort with summer jobs, the gang stumbles onto a mystery when the Frog Monster of Lake Erie makes an unexpected appearance, scaring away all the guests. Only Mystery Inc. can save the day, but with a creature on the loose, mystical moonstones and summer romance in the air, will they be able to work as a team and solve the crime?

The Sarah Michelle Gellar/ Freddie Prinz jnr films suffered from two things. First, they were horribly miscast with Daphne turned into a Buffy-clone complete with martial arts moves and one-liners and Feddie Prinz being like Freddie in name only. Shaggy, Scooby and Velma were rather better done. Second, they abandoned the classic Scooby Doo 'everything explained at the unmasking' to introduce real supernatural stuff, which made them nowhere near as funny, though this was the trend of the later Scooby cartoons.
Curse of the Lake Monster follows the casting approach of the third film, The Mystery Begins, with actors chosen to look and sound like the originals rather than for being stars. The casting worked for me, and was a really welcome relief from the first two. Sadly, it doesn't get back to the classic Scooby explanations, but it does have the total anarchy which interrupted even the most serious chases in the 1970s classics.
To me this feels like Scooby Doo, whereas the first two felt like a pantomime version of Scooby Doo. This is not going to be a transforming event in your life, but it's a load of fun and children will love it.
I loved it too.
My 7 year old daughter & I are massive Scooby Doo fans & we own many of the animated cartoons that are available on DVD. We really enjoyed 'The mystery begins' and had quite high hopes for this sequel, but I have to say that I felt really let down by this film. It feels very different in tone to 'the mystery begins', it lacked all the warmth and charm of that movie, the special effects felt a bit tired and the dialogue was just far less sharp & was not really very funny. The plot is arguably a bit more adult in that a large aspect of the film revolves around Daphne falling for Freddie & Shaggy falling for Velma, this kinda felt a bit silly & meant that Scooby was a bit sidelined. I'd love to say this was a good film that is worth the money, but I can't. The best thing about this DVD is the cool sleeve that the DVD is boxed in which has a moving water effect & there are a couple of 'What's New Scooby Doo' cartoons as part of the extra's.
I suppose if you want the complete set, then go buy this film. But if you are new to buying Scooby Doo movies then I would honestly say that there are many Scooby films that are far more entertaining for you to invest your money in.
