I was keen to get my teeth into the second instalment of The Storm Series as I wanted to learn more about the characters that I had started to get to know. Nathanial and Soloman continued to feature prominently, their stories weaving through the lives of other characters, some old and some new. There is no denying that it is gruesome in parts but, with the elements of humour throughout, it becomes more palatable. I love, love, love the witty Twever and his relationships with Nathaniel, Jennifer and Katrina . The author has managed to create lots of very different characters that remain interesting and have depth. This enables the reader, whether you love them or loathe them, to care about about happens in their lives. Needless to say I shall be downloading book three very shortly. Highly recommended.
This was another good read. Having read and enjoyed Alan's first book, I was looking forward to reading more. He continues to develop his characters and their relationships with great skill, bringing them to life and making them believeable to the reader. The book contains a good mix of horror and fantasy but still manages key moments of romance and comedy along the way. I agree with the previous reviewer that the book would benefit from some professional editing - there were a few minor typos but a worthy 4 stars.
Having read the first book, I was keen to find out how all of the elements would link together and provide an ending. The author does this very well, the relationships throughout the book are cleverly developed, not giving too much away until the very end, and the different 'threads' of the story come together with an ending that is certainly not predictable. I really enjoyed the book, and would happily recommend it.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, even more than the first one, which I didn't think possible. I love the characters in the book and learning more about them. Once I had finished it, I couldn't wait to start the next in the series. Even if you have never read fantasy books before, give them a go. You will be pleasantly surprised.
