This book follows neatly on from Marty's first book -
What Is Wrong With Scientology?: Healing through Understanding
No one knows the inner workings of Scientology at its highest levels better, and his ability to communicate the salient points in a non-jargon narrative is exceptional.
Whereas the first book deals mainly with the body of knowledge that is Scientology and how it has been perverted and corrupted by those supposedly entrusted to keep it pure, this second book looks at the state of the current "church" of Scientology and takes you through a journey of greed, corruption and pure insanity - all against a historical context of an earlier church's turmoil - the Protestant reformation.
There is plenty to titillate the tabloids with details of Tom Cruise's metamorphosis into a rabid zealot of Miscavige's cult. But of much more interest is the how and why of that transformation, which is spelled out clearly in this book. Highly recommended reading - easily digestible.

About the Author
Mark ‘Marty’ Rathbun was Inspector General of the Religious Technology Center (RTC), the organization that controls the copyrights and trademarks of the materials relating to Dianetics and Scientology. His role was to head the Inspector General Network, described by the Church of Scientology as "an independent investigatory and policing body whose function is to keep Scientology working by ensuring the pure and ethical use of Dianetics and Scientology technology." The post is one of the most senior management functions in the Church and its related organizations. Rathbun left the Church of Scientology in 2004. He is now an independent Scientologist. As such he and his wife, Monique, provide counseling and auditing services for other Scientologists that have cut their ties with the Church of Scientology. He emerged as a critical source in a 2009 St. Petersburg Times expose on the organization, revealing that physical violence is a common occurrence within Scientology management, and that Scientology head David Miscavige regularly beats his staff, and orders staff to administer beatings to designated individuals. The series by the Times titled "Inside Scientology: The Truth Rundown" (http://tinyurl.com/mjcnfv) was recognized with honors including the 2010 Gold Medal for Public Service award from the Florida Society of News Editors, and was a finalist for the 2010 National Headliner Awards in the category of investigative reporting. VINE VOICE
The basic premise of this book is that Marty sees himself as a modern day Martin Luther
Martin Luther
and this book is Marty's Ninety-five Theses (he does number his in the book). The book is not really intended for non- Scientologists and if you aren't a student of comparative religion you might find the book hard going, confusing and a bit unhinged at times. Having studied comparative religion I have read quite a bit of Marty's writing and hopefully one day he will write another book that explains all the contradictions in all his other books, blogs and videos. Marty can be a great guy but it can be frustrating to read more contradictions in this book to his blog and other books and videos yet again. For example according to Marty the infamous 'Hole' exists and then it doesn't! One minute, according to Marty, David Miscavige is a "fun guy" who knows how to make people feel good (these are from Marty's own words) and then the next he is the Devil himself. Although some might argue that Miscavige going to Las Vegas, drinking whiskey and having pre-martial sex is not exactly *evil* and according to the tenets of the Scientology religion he isn't breaking any rules by doing so. If the Pope did it it might be a more shocking matter!
You do wonder if the inclusion of a few sensationalist pages utilising the name of Tom Cruise was to help sales as not many would probably buy this book just to read how Marty wants a 'Protestant Reformation' A History of the Protestant Reformation in England and Ireland for the CoS and his manifesto to do so. It is somewhat ironic that many buy the book because of a few shocking 'tell all' pages only to find they have purchased an insiders manifesto of how to bring the CoS to greater glory. Also, it should be noted that all the 'tell all' aspects of the book are already on the internet.
Marty compares Catholic 'indulgences' to the present day system in the CoS of 'amends' for Ethics violations and other technical aspects of Scientology, which is one of the reasons the book only makes sense to Scientologists or students of comparative religion. To be fair Marty does state the book is only intended for Scientologists and ex-Scientologists.
If you have read Marty's other books then you should give this one a try but if you are unfamiliar with the topic it will not make a lot of sense.

former confessor of Tom Cruise hangs up the Church of Scientology's dirty washing

This is a slim book, but rather intriguingly when it was published its author wrote on his blog that the book was designed to fit easily and unobtrusively into an inside pocket - with the implication it could be smuggled into 'Orgs' more easily! This book is worth reading if only to read how the cult leader Miscavige has persuaded Tom Cruise that he and Miscavige are the only 'Big Beings' in the world. It is commonly said that the CoS vets film roles for its members. If that is true then it is not difficult to see how the Church has used his film roles as part of its brainwashing process of Cruise.

This is a brilliantly written book, and bravely done as Scientologists just hound you and DO not let go. They wear you down.
Helped me with abuse in another setting. Thank you Marty!
