I felt rejected, dejected, hard done by and discouraged. Well, I downloaded the free chapter of Mildred’s book from [...] and it immediately spoke to me and to my circumstances by confronting my victim mentality.
When I bought the actual book, chapter 7 showed me how to use my years of volunteering to get into my next paid job. Chapter 9 then talked to me about the hidden job market and I made up my mind to apply to the top 100 companies to work for. I also registered with recruitment agencies with key advice from chapter 13.
I amended my LinkedIn profile (chapter 14 showed me how), amended my CV (I had 51 tips to choose from in chapter 24) and drastically improved my cover letters (chapters 25 – 27).
One of the most amazing things that I discovered was that, as I kept a record of the jobs that I applied for, I could almost predict that for a specific number of jobs applied for, I could almost guarantee an interview. It then hit me – there is an actual science to job hunting.
When I got to the interview stage, I followed the tips on phone interviews (chapter 29), prepared and overcame the top tough interview questions (chapter 30 – and they were asked, as if on cue!) and asked the number 1 question, as directed in chapter 31.
On a Saturday evening, I had an email directly from a company who saw my CV and approached me directly (I’m not even sure that I can say I was ‘headhunted’ – it’s almost beyond my belief!) I replied on Sunday. They got back to me on a Monday and invited me in for an interview on the Tuesday.
Plus, the job was actually with a company in the top 25 to work for – just as I wanted (by the way, there is actually a chapter on getting your mind to focus on positive things.)
My only ‘complaint’ (it’s hardly a complaint though) would be that the book says it is by Mildred Talabi but there is information in it from experts in dressing appropriately for the interview, recruitment consultants and even an interview expert.
I can’t promise you the same results but I would suggest that this is probably the only book that you will ever need to get your next job (well, maybe you might need ‘7 Keys To A Winning CV’ too).
It takes you through the necessary steps from CV to social media and lots of key points not found elsewhere.
It's well written and a clear and entertaining read. Above all it's bang up to date and gives you the best approach to landing that dream job
Highly recommend comes complete with examples and lots of resources to help you.
or stage you are in with your job search, this book can provide a great deal of assistance to you. It is both well written and practical. And, as a SAHM, I've found it to help boost my confidence in my effort to return to work!
