About the Author
H. G. Wells was born in Bromley, Kent, in 1866. He had a very varied career, with jobs ranging from draper's apprentice to teacher. His literary debut came with the 1895 publication of The Time Machine and his subsequent writings include romances, short stories, novels and political tracts.
Top Customer Reviews
Wells' work is very easy to read, unlike some of Dickens', and you can see why Hugo Gernsback later ran them as serials in his early sci-fi magazines.
Together, the four stories in the book, The Time Machine, The War Of The Worlds, The Island Of Doctor Moreau and The First Men In The Moon, are the most influential work of science fiction ever written.
Don't forget the second collection of his tales, which includes The Invisible Man, The Shape of Things to Come and When the Sleeper Awakes.
