First things first, I have seen many negative reviews on this product which is more to do with people's lack of knowledge about going blonde than the actual quality of the product itself. It does what bleach generally does. To get dark hair blonde you will have to face a few shades of orange and yellow before you reach your destination. You will also need to use a toner or a cool based blonde dye to get a more ashy looking blonde as opposed to a more light buttery blonde. I admit that it's quite naughty that it does not go into more detail in the instructions. Going blonde is a complicated process. This product is a bleach, not a dye. It should not be treated the same as a dye. I admit that the instructions are misleading to a novice person with no prior knowledge of lifting their hair colour. It makes you believe that you will instantly go straight to the hair colour on the front if you have brown hair. For this I have taken off a star. You may need to use this product more than once to achieve the result on the box along with some purple toning shampoo or a toner.

On the plus side, this product is not as harsh on your hair as powder bleach (albeit it is still harsh so please stock up on protein and keratin treatments and deep conditioners). It also does not dry out whilst processing like powder bleach does and it is easier to distribute through the hair. If you have a lot of hair or it is longer than shoulder length you will need two boxes. Overall this is my favourite bleach. I took my hair from dark warm brown (virgin hair with some slightly faded red henna half way down. Yes you can bleach over henna so long it contains no metallic compounds) to a light blonde shade. I had to bleach it 3 times to get the result I wanted and my hair was very dry.

There is a top review on here by a fellow reviewer that I feel people should really take into account before negatively reviewing this product, because they point out a very true fact, it's people's lack of knowledge about bleaching that cause products like this to gain bad reviews when actually it's not the product it's how you use it and your knowledge with it, please look into bleaching before buying these dyes.

Going blonde from dark brown/brown is a very very hard process and trust me to achieve this shade shown on the box you will need to go through quite a few boxes before you reach your max blonde shade. Expect to go orange, ginger and experience very dried out hair.

I went blonde last year from very dark brown and it was very hard and very frustrating as it doesn't lift first time or in most cases even the second time, I went through ginger and I thought my hair would never lift! Eventually, and left with dry damaged hair I achieved my max blonde shade.
I used Absolute platinum live xxl and it didn't work for me at all so I was slightly hesitant to use this but was on offer in boots so I got this one recently to streak my hair as I got fed up of being a full blonde as the maintaince was just too time consuming and costs a lot of money, so I ended up dying it back to a darker colour but I wanted a blonde streak so I could dye it funky colours.
I got this dye because xxl is a good make even though the Absolute platinum one didn't work when I used it last year in my quest to become blonde, but this one worked wonders for me, lightened within 20 minutes to a nice ashy blonde shade, which is much quicker than other home bleaching dye kits.

I've been blonde more times than I can count, currently I've got blonde panels in my hair. I want to stress that Max Blonde is a level 8 lightener, it is quite nasty and strong and it is NOT a natural shade of blonde even when done over natural colour it has a heavily yellowish tint to it after dying it is classed as 'ice blonde' but called max as it is such a big lightener.

Things you NEED to know:
You cannot just 'dye' your hair blonde especially with a dye like this because it WILL go yellow, if your hair is about a very light ash brown it WILL go bright orange and gold on first bleaching regardless of condition, hair colour as a child etc. It HAS to go through the colour spectrum to reach blonde.

This will turn dyed hair or even naturally brown hair bright orange like a traffic cone with golden bits, this is normal and every blonde pack will do it, even a hairdresser can rarely do a full head of blonde.

This must be done at your own risk, if your hair is very thin, brittle, damaged or sheds when dyed this may not be the dye for you as it is quite strong.

There is plenty in the box to cover your hair thoroughly from shot to medium length, HOWEVER you are very likely going to need to dye your hair more than once to achieve the colour and you should not use this twice on your hair unless you want to be at an extreme risk of going bald or breaking.

The chances of your hair turning the colour on the box are probably about 5% out of 100. If you are naturally VERY light brown with no red tints or you are blonde WITHOUT DYE so your hair is virginal, you are likely to get a good result however you will still need to tone your hair afterwards (purchase toner on here too) and keep it up with purple shampoo.
