I spent some time looking for tyres to replace Maxxis detonator which I could no longer find in this size. I though the Durano plus would be a good option - I liked the promo picture of a drawing pin in the tyre which seemed to reassure me I was doing the right thing.

My first order was delivered in good time but the seller sent 700x23c in error so these had to go back. I re-ordered a new pair and again they arrived in good time. Being keen to get on the move I fitted the tyres only then noticed that I had been sent only one Durano plus and the other was the standard Durano tyre. I didn't bother sending that back as I really wanted to get back on the road.

I managed to go nearly 2 miles on tarmac before getting my first flat from a stone which not only penetrated the anti-puncture guard on the Durano plus but has sliced the rubber outer and opened the tyre right up and it is now useless. Maybe I have been unlucky but I now need to start all over again having just wasted £52.68.

I've been riding with these for about a month now which to be honest, probably isn't long enough for a proper test.
However, I love the practicality of them and so far my commutes have been puncture free.
As long as they save me having to keep repairing punctures, they're good by me!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fast and flat-free 19 Mar. 2013

I have had Durano Plus tires on my newest randonnee bike for about 18 months. Zero flats. 3500 miles. These tires are fast enough for ultra distance rides. They're a tad slower than other lighter tires but on timed ultra events, I think you lose more time fixing flats than you do running (very) slightly slower but bombproof tires. Especially if the events run overnight. There is no bigger bummer than having to fix a flat on the side of a rural road at 3:00AM in the pitch black (and rain) and running these tires greatly reduce the odds of that scenario happening. They also have a reflective stripe which should be standard on all bicycle tires. Get their inner tubes too which are far superior to anything else on the market--I have to top off my tire pressure less than once a month with their tubes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent tire - most durable I've found for a road bike! 3 Aug. 2014
By Johnny - Published on Amazon.com
I am a heavier rider (200 - 230 pounds) and do lots of road biking (about 3500 miles per summer in Minnesota). Had been having good luck with Bontrager HardCase Lite tires, but recently have not. Tried Continental Gatorskins when my shop had no Bontrager HardCase in stock. Was extremely dissapointed by the Gatorskins - several flats over a few rides and paper thin sidewalls. After much research, I ended up ordering 2 Schwalbe Durano Plus. Love this tire so far (approximately 500 miles on the tires and no flats). Found the Schwalbe tires much easier to install than both the Bontrager and the Contis. In fact, I like the Schwalbes so much I ordered 2 additional Durano Plus for future use. Highly recommended!
5.0 out of 5 stars Great commuter/training tire 22 Dec. 2014
By C. Hale - Published on Amazon.com
I put a little over 1100 miles commuting on city and industrial roads on these tires. with my old tires I used to average a flat a week (80 miles/wk). With the Durano Plus I've had one flat where a one inch long cotter pin made it through. Nothing would have stopped that. The tires are heavy but once they are up to speed they roll very nice. Traction seems good, even in the wet and the wear appears excellent. I expect to get a ton of miles on these.
