My son has collected all the "Humphrey Books" and we all love them. They are a good read, telling interesting stories, from the point-of-view of Humphrey, the Classroom Hamster. The stories cover day-to-day school life, but also other issues that children may have to deal with in their lives, such as illness, disability and accidents, friendships and family relationships - including step-parents/ step-siblings, friends from other cultures (or species!) - shyness and bullying, belonging and fitting in, courage and truthfulness etc. However, the books are written so well that these things just occur as a natural part of the story.
The new book is about how Humphrey - and the Class - cope with the start of a new school year and the changes this brings. It moves along at a good pace and there are plenty of amusing and fun incidents to keep the reader keen. I may be a "grown up", but I love the Humphrey books - and my son brought his book to me and recommended it, once he had finished reading it (at an amazing pace!).
Definitely one to buy - and I would recommend the whole set. A good way to encourage a reluctant reader - and suitable for both boys and girls.

its hard to find a book for children to read that hasnt got worring things buried with in the pages! but when you do find a Series of books designed for children to read on their own or with others, these books have a main character that most children (and a lot of adults) warm to and feel safe with. But this is not just a fluffy lovable character; this little Guy knows what its like to grow up with all its trials and tribulations. And it seems he has a sense of humour and a moral hidden in every story.

A great series of books for children from say 6 to 11 years.

And adults say from 6 to 75 years (there is a saying " look into an old mans face and you will see the twinkling eyes of a child " ;-)

This book taught my 6 year old about the importance of making new friends and that it is ok to get used to your new teacher. She learned about amphibians, mammals and crustaceans. Oh yes and to never get stuck under a door!

This is a book about a classroom hamster and his thoughts and adventures Humphrey seems to solve all classroom problems very good to get children reading as it is quite funny and interesting at the same time, a child could believe that these are what a hamster would say or write down if they could talk. Fantastic book for children. A good way to encourage a reluctant reader - and suitable for both boys and girls. I would say this book is suitable for age 8 - 12 year olds to read by themselves but a child of 6 would also enjoy them if someone read the book to them. I think the Humprey books are really good and are written to capture a childs imagination. It also gives hamster tips really good if your child owns a hamster.

Hermit crabs!! I don't know why but the idea of having hermit crabs isn't my idea of a classroom pet. I mean, a hamster or a frog would be a little bit more, um, classroom pet like. Mrs Brisbane was right to be surprised. Ruth (9 years)

This is a great book for children, especially if you've read some of the other books in the series. It follows the life of Humphrey, a classroom hamster and the adventures he has. It is a lot of fun. My 9 year old son loves all the Humphrey books :)
