This story really did play with my emotions I felt so much anger towards a certain individual in the book and so much sadness for Mela and her predicament and also joy in acknowledging that even where there is darkness and despair there can be humour and hope and that wealth and power does not ensure honour nor criminality and poverty exclude it.
The relationship between Mela and Jackson is totally believable and whilst they face a number of challenges together and separately there is plenty of humour and swoon worthy hot sex..what more could I ask for.... I loved the motorcycle gang that Mela encounters and would love to know more about the gang members in particular their leader Rock and his relationship with Ari....but in addition there are so many great characters who would be deserving of their own moment in the spotlight. The story is told from the perspective of Mela and on occasions Ari and Jackson and as such there is a clear timeline with all key developments explained without any need for a recap which ensured the story moved at a good pace.
I thought this book was a compelling and thrilling read.... it had sad and serious as well as light hearted moments and although Mela encounters a lot of angst overall this is a story of love, hope and forgiveness...
I really liked how the first few chapters of this book covered the 'back story' of Mela. It helped make a connection with Ian, how Mela felt and why she chose the course of action that she did. It really helped build the picture ready for her meeting with Jackson.
Whilst I liked both main characters, I preferred Jackson to Mela, it wasn't that I disliked her in any way and I know she had some very bad experiences, but to me she came across as a little weak at times. I liked that the book was written first person from both POV's, as this allowed me to connect with both the hero and heroine. There were some really well written supporting characters and in some ways I would have liked to see more of them in the book ... or see them have their own stories!
The relationship develops incredibly quickly, normally I dislike this but in this story I felt it worked. After all Jackson and Mela find themselves in a very intense situation and are together 24/7. Mela has also been in a very strange and unusual situation for several years and isn't used to company.
The book is very well written, the editing is wonderful, the pace is good, the plot is really well thought through and has some exciting twists and turns. The dialogue is very natural and I thoroughly enjoyed this book from start to finish. I will definitely look out for more books by this author.
I felt as if the story and the characters spoke to me, there was so much emotion it seemed to ooze from almost every page.
Mela had been through so much but she had an inner strength that kept her going and a fortitude that defied description, this was a mother that wasn’t ever going to let her little man down and she was willing to stop at nothing to ensure that she did just that, she fought tooth and nail for everything good in her life and that included her son Beck. I felt nothing but pride when reading her story, a strong competent woman with an honest to god backbone that didn’t know the meaning of the words “give up” she was so strong, I thought she was fabulous.
Jackson had issues of his own, but they were his to deal with and much like Mela, he was shouldering his own sh*t and working through everything that the world seemed to have heaped on him, but could these two strangers find a way to help each other see the wood for the trees?
I wondered if it was even possible for either of them to completely trust someone again, Mela gave me the impression she wanted too but with Jackson playing his cards very clos to his chest and harbouring a secret that just might be the straw that breaks her trust once and for all, I had to read much of the last third of the book with my fingers crossed.
I wanted them to have it all but I just didn’t know if they had it in them…was I right?
Well that is something you really should discover for yourself. This is one you should add to your TBR list without any hesitation
I'm not going to say anything about the storyline. I will say I'd love another story about the secondary characters- Rock and his crew gave me goosebumps.
I'm not sure why I haven't read any of this authors books before but that will have to change as this was an epic read.
