3D 'torture porn' horror starring Ben Cotton as gruesome undertaker Ernie Bishop, known for stashing teenage prisoners in the basement of his morgue and keeping them tied up in cabinets meant for dead bodies. Bishop gets his kicks cutting and torturing his unsuspecting victims before using a hand mirror to show them the damage he has inflicted upon them. When Joan Burrows (Angela Bettis) arrives back in town for the crowning of her Prom Queen niece, Olympia (Kirby Bliss Blanton), she decides that enough is enough and goes after the serial killer who tormented her own youth and is now terrorising her niece's friends.
Be prepared for incontrollable fear and hyper realistic gore with Scar, the first original slasher flick to be shot using 3D technology. A thrilling, nerve-jangling experience from beginning to end, Scar combines the gruesome suspense of classic Horror, with the glossy viscera of modern cinema. Jane Burrows (Angela Bettis) bears a permanent scar on her cheek, and on her memory. Whilst visiting her brother for her niece’s graduation, the woman is violently put face to face with her grievous past. We discover that at sixteen, Jane and her best friend were abducted by a sadistic serial killer named Bishop. After having bore horrific torture, Jane managed to free herself from her prosecutor by killing him. Unfortunately though, her friend did not survive the unmentionable suffering. Now that she is back in the small town of her teenage years, Jane is thrown back into the nightmare, when a copycat criminal starts kidnapping local young girls, her niece included. Is Bishop really dead or is someone emulating him, and why?

To deal with the 3-D aspect first... the film is shot in a bleary, murky near-black-and-white and (unlike, say, the My Bloody Valentine remake) there are no shots which take advantage of the 3-D effect in any way. Wearing the cheap 3-D glasses makes the shoddy-looking film appear even worse, and gives you a headache. Thankfully the disc also includes a 2-D option, and I switched to that after 20 minutes. It doesn't look significantly better.
Turning to the film itself, for most of its mercifully brief running time it plays like a particularly wishy-washy teen slasher. Think of the Prom Night remake - annoying characters, lame dialogue, off-screen murders, no atmosphere, no tension, no plot development. Now imagine that, but even less competently made, with even worse actors.... and you have Scar. The identity of the killer is almost completely random, and he (or she) apparently has no motive other than being a not-very-nice person. Thanks to the complete lack of atmosphere, when the film gets gory - and it does - it just seems gratuitous and unpleasant rather than frightening or disturbing.
I watch a lot of horror movies, good and bad, but this is the worst I've seen for a very, very long time. If you're an Angela Bettis fan, watch May or even Toolbox Murders. If you've seen them, watch them again. Just don't waste your time on this rubbish.
The music doesn't stand out, the characters are lifeless, the only feeling they have is annoying and the plot is average (how many films can we see about a killer who was caught and there is a copy cat). If the film was pulled of right its lack of originality could be forgiven but it can't be in this case. Even the name isn't original.
The 3D is a complete waste of time so that shouldn't even tempt anyone. 3D wasn't really fully developed back then so maybe that's why it isn't impressive but they don't try and take advantage of it. Even Piranha did in some scenes. Even though 3D isn't anything special or exciting in general, it is even less of a spectacle in this film.
Overall there is no reason to watch this over the many films out there. I find it hard to find a horror film worse than this. Some films are so bad their actually good but this is just bad. There isn't even half as much violence as the average horror film out there too, just another flaw into the bargain. Cheaply made and very dull.
The 3D in this movie is amazing, even on a regular TV (I watched it on a HD 32" via a dvd player that upscales non HD dvds) Admitedly the film itself is fairly average, but so was Journey to the centre of the earth - yet with the addition of 3D that was one of the best films of the past 12 months for an alround movie experiance.
If you enjoy 3D, give Scar a go - you wont regret it.
I found this film rather intresting but all in all it was a flower that needed more water.
The story was good and if your into films like 'Saw' and 'Killing Gene' then its most probably that you will like this too. The filmakers did not offer much jumps or scares but the gore in the film made up for that.
ms.bettis seemed to really tone herself down for this film but considering what her character went through, it was very understandable why she was like this. many might think she gave a bad performance in this film but she actually did not. the rest of the cast were allright.
the film flows kinda slowly but offers still a good watch its not fantastic but it aint crap either. As for the 3d, it could of done without it nothing came flying out and it did not have enougth 'effect to affect' I think the film would of been just as good if was just done normally the color of the film gives it a kinda black and white glossy look to it and i found that very intresting but i think if they filmed this with the camera they used to film j.lo's video 'Aint it funny' the look of the film would of been even better and the 3d wud not have been needed. there aint much suspense or thrills in this film just alot of gore. i have seen better films and i have seen worse. I refer to this film
as ( One Of My Watchables ) check it out if it pops up on tv but dont bend over backways to get it.
