Clean up is very easy. No more work than cleaning a coated non-stick and way easier than cast iron grill pan I use to have.
This is my first Scanpan product. It won't be my last.
It was time for a new one. It is the best skillet I have owned and with the glass domed lid that cooks the interior of your food and seals in the flavor, you can cook anything to perfection. I love this pan.
My model of this grillpan has lower sides, and it looks like it has a slightly larger grilling surface. When I got it it was sold as an 11" 'Classic' model, and it looks more like the griddle you see below here, but with the grill elevations. The shorter sides allow you to use skewers flat on the grill surface, and also to remove fragile foods easier with a spatula than navigating around the higher sides. However, it seems like they've replaced my model with this one. If you want to search for the other, you may find it worth it.
I've tended to be a Le Creuset snob of sorts, and have a circular one of theirs which, while not specifically sold as nonstick, held out that promise with it's black coating. Everything always stuck to it, and there was always much non-scrubbable residue, likely from the spray I used. Le Creuset may now have a more au currant REAL nonstick surface, I don't know--but even if they did, I'd choose this one for its ease of handling and fine cooking job.
Cleanup with this Scanpan is magical. It only requires hot water and a brush to make all the burnt stuff disappear easily--then hot soapy water and voila! It's like new. I don't recommend using nonstick sprays. First, you don't need them with this pan, and second, they accumulate residue which burns on and becomes very hard to scrub off.
If you live near a Trader Joe's, get their marinated lamb tips and skewer them up and grill 'em on this, preheated ONLY at medium high heat. Doesn't get any easier or more delicious.
I am now looking for a good grill pan and will probably try a Calaphon square grill pan, as my friend swears by hers which is over a year old, uses it several days a week, and still holding up. I rated it a 3, but would rate other Scanpans a 4.
