It's is not branded with a team or driver which saves you about £20.
The track can be laid by an eight year old which saves you a lot of trouble.
The handsets have a "skill level control" that allows you to adjusted them so a five year old can keep the car on the track or dad can go mental down the straights but have to slow down at the corners.
The cars seem fairly robust, anyway they still work on the the 29th Dec!

It's so much easier to put together and take apart other scalextric cars run on this track but as it says you need conversion track (around a fiver) if you want to use other track... Who cares theres tonnes of different ways to lay the track and my hubby hasn't been on his since our daughter got this saturday morning.
If he says its good it has to be good. I like the little bit of girlie touch with decorate your own car with the stickers supplied.
Will be buying again for our nephew..
However second lot work perfectly and are by far the best 'start' cars - stick to the track, no little bits to fall off and much better than the 'cars' themed cars that came with the original track that never manage a full lap without flying off (even if applying the stickers is a bit of a fiddle)
Not sure what all the negativity about these is to be honest.
I checked it before giftwrapping it and its excellent! Cant wait for christmas!
Some times getting the cars to run will require a little DIY which was also part of the fun.
The quality of the cars may not be up to the standard of other scalextric models but the the cars are plenty fast enough and I will need more straights to get a good run at top speeed. The cars took what was dished out to them including my son playing "chop chop ninja crash" to run me off the road after a long fast straight. My son was Ok with the controller set to max after the first outing. I tracked down the adapter tracks and bought some additional straights from the outset.
One minor thing is that the range is new the track is quite sturdy but not a flexible as normal Scalextric. I think scalextric have just released the lap counter, a start finish grid with the set would have been a nice touch. The people I got the additional stuff from were honest enough to say that the additional curbs didn't fit. the cars have magna traction so really to crash them you have to give them some welly. Half the idea of scalextric racing is to develop the skill to keep the car(s) on the track. . My set came with a 3 pin transformer whiich is streets ahead of the old metal box the used in the old days I consider my money well spent

Don't buy this. It's very cheaply made. There are no crash barriers so the cars fly off the track (suspect they'll break soon). Read morePublished on 7 Feb. 2011 by H. Learoyd
