Product Description

LP features deluxe embossed sleeve with 8 page booklet. Deluxe CD packaging with O-card and 8 page booklet. Perfect Pussy are one of the boldest and most intriguing projects to surface in recent years, garnering widespread critical acclaim following the release of a four song EP, titled I have lost all desire for feeling. Veiled beneath layers of exquisitely abrasive noise, frontwoman Meredith Graves' lyrics are disarming, brutally honest and poetic, possessing a feverish intensity that can only be matched by Graves' electric stage presence. Hailing from Syracuse, New York, the band is comprised of members from the local punk and hardcore community. Since releasing their 4 song demo cassette I Have Lost All Desire for Feeling in late 2013, Perfect Pussy have taken the music world by storm. Their harsh yet refreshing lyrics paired with the assaulting vocals of singer Meredith Graves drew in audiences from all crowds. While often muffled by the wall of sound built buy the guitar, bass, drums and synth, it is the brutal truths of Graves' lyrics and the power of her live delivery that has had everyone from Rolling Stone to Pitchfork to The New York Times praising the power of this rising band. With Say Yes to Love Perfect Pussy have begun to hone their sound while retaining the rough around the edges noise that first drew listeners in. The first track, Driver , grabs the listener and drags them into the chaotic world of this brief but powerful album. The songs kick and punch but it is the dense, honest lyrics that will make the listener feel the most. Filled with conflict and confidence and despair and desire, these are songs that stay with the listener long after the album has ended. These punk kids from the mean streets of Syracuse, New York, deliver high-energy slabs of mayhem-friendly post punk noise, a wall of guitar and Casio. Meredith Graves knows how to run her mosh pit like a dictator runs a birthday party. Rolling Stone // In just four short songs, Perfect Pussy has spoken more truths than many artists with 20-year-spanning discographies, and with news of a debut full-length in the works, now is probably a good time to start bracing yourselves. It might get a little uncomfortable, but trust me, the shake-up is worth it. Complex // One of the boldest new rock bands. Pitchfork //

First listen it is 22 minutes of noise, but on repeated plays subtleties show themselves and reveal a great record. At times it reminds this aged reviewer of Huggy Bear at their most cacophonous or Ben Frost trying his hand at Hard-core, either way it may be brief but is not a one trick pony.

Brilliant and positive punk-noise-whippets to be had here. This is the perfect pussy. ... I think these guys are my new favorite band, so much chaos, but undercut with actually beautiful songs about love and pain and how to get through it all. PERFECT.

P.P. sound like Be Your Own Pet, & innumerable other "here today, gone tomorrow" faux punk flakes. There's a complete paucity of new or interesting ideas herein, but I guess if you're 15 & think that Crystal Castles are (ha) radical it won't matter?

Same s***, different sandwich. :(

4.0 out of 5 stars Experimental punk rock with personal lyrics 4 May 2014
By RK, Germany - Published on Amazon.com

Singer Meredith Graves' previous band "Shoppers" (highly recommended: the "Silver Year" album) already mixed raw, speedy and experimental hardcore punk with personal lyrics. After launching "Perfect Pussy" (now consisting of 5 members while "Shoppers" only consisted of 3), her first demo cassette debut and this album stay on this path. Like a rough-and-ready variant of "confessional poets" like Anne Sexton she writes about emotional wounds, broken relationships etc. If you appreciate early "Flipper", "Sonic Youth" in their pre-pop era and riot grrrls predecessors like "Frightwig", this one's for you. (Yeah, it's a bit short, so what.)

4.0 out of 5 stars Old Geezers' 2 cents 15 Nov. 2014

What's she yelling about? Who knows. Who cares.
Noisy, ferocious, and melodic(!) punk energy.
Underneath the crappy production values (intentional, one must presume), talent lurks.
Let's hear more please.

3.0 out of 5 stars I think it's intentional just not something I care for...Sorry. 21 Mar. 2014

Heard about this band from NPR ASC. This album is short (31 minutes long) and contains 12 tunes. This is the debut LP from the band that has been garnering a lot of attention as of late. The production and mixing on this one is what I might call muddy. The guitars are jangly and ferocious, the bass and drums are just as ferocious but take a back seat. Then you add the yelling singing (different then screaming) and mix it all together without much sonic separation. I do think they did this on purpose. I like my music a bit cleaner but I will give this more listens to see how it progresses. I think they would probably put on a killer live show though, full of energy. They do add some interesting elements that I don't yet understand (long lines of distortion, what sounds like a film projector, etc) The album got pretty experimental during VII, wasn't expecting that but it was pretty awesome. The live tracks that finish the album are even muddier.

Standout tracks: Big Stars, Interference Fits, VII

If you don't like this album you are a terrible person with terrible taste and need to have your head examined. That's all there is to it.
