This book, as well as Savage, is a true page-turner. I was eager to find out more, and therefore found it very difficult to set the book aside for such mundane tasks as eating, sleeping, and work. There are several plot twists which will throw you for a loop, but they serve to advance the story and explain what is happening both now and in the past. At several occasions you’ll find yourself wondering who to trust and what hidden agendas and dirty secrets are still left to uncover, which keeps you at the edge of your seat. The final resolution, the climax of all the plotting and scheming, is very unexpected but no less welcome. Readers will be pleasantly surprised at the turn of events.
If I have to name something that I didn’t like, I’d have to add nuance and say the following is more something that irked me on occasion. Sara Jane and Alexander are deeply in love and devoted to one another, and it makes sense that they express this to each other. However, to me sometimes these somewhat lengthy declarations feel a bit unnatural, like a speech given at a reception. While sweet and heartfelt, for me they slow down the pace of the story at times. I do like how these declarations, as well as their actions and inner musings, show character development; recent events have caused both Sara Jane and Alexander to grow up and face reality and the consequences of their actions, and the ensuing growth in maturity is very welcome.
The supporting characters have changed a bit with the scenery as well as events while they unfold, and are a lovely addition to the story. They each play an important role in both the story itself as well as Sara Jane’s and Alexander’s lives. Her friendship with Shelly is – understandably – strained for most of the book, but again this works well within the story development.
This is not your usual SL Scott romance, but definitely worth picking up, especially if you like more angsty, darker themes.
This story picks up from the humdinger of a cliffhanger in the first book.
"She's the reason I breathe, the reason I wake up in the morning. She's everything that matters in my life. I can't lose her."
Alexander has the world at his feet but it all seems pretty worthless. He is suffering. He's in such pain, such agony of guilt over what's happened to Sara Jane. His Firefly has come back to him but it's not the reunion that either of them envisaged.
"The day I met Sara Jane was about two lives that weren't meant for only one lifetime, but destined to be together forever."
This conclusion was just STUNNING! Again, as with the first instalment, it had a dark and edgy fairytale quality to it, with evil lurking amongst the beauty and magic that is the love between Alexander and Sara Jane. They are written with such haunting tenderness and poetry that I found myself feeling so envious of this fictional couple. They have such faith, such unyielding belief in their love for each other. I highlighted so many wonderful, heart-melting quotes from the book that it's difficult to choose my favourite!
As with the first book in this duet, we get glimpses of their relationship through flashbacks, as well as clues to the current day mystery. The plot was amazing and the revelations shocking! Never saw them coming!
"A love this extraordinary can't be contained to one lifetime."
Such a beautiful, absorbing, thrilling read! Thoroughly, thoroughly recommend this duet.
I cannot even begin to tell you how utterly and completely smashed my heart and soul were after the ending of Savage!!! I was DYING. DYING. DYING to find out what was going to happen with Sara Jane and Alexander! SERIOUSLY. That ending though....
SL Scott has created and delivered another achingly-beautiful, heart-stopping, star-crossed romance. Once I started Savior, I could. Not. Stop. Her brilliant story telling captivated me from start to finish. I am IN LOVE with these characters. IN. LOVE. I was submersed within the pages and never wanted to resurface. I felt like I was living through Alexander’s pain. His struggles. His fears. His sacrifices. God. I felt them. That’s one of the many reasons I love Scott’s writing so much. SHE MAKES YOU FEEL EVERY WORD. And I FELT. IT. ALL.
Savior is one of my absolute favourite stories of the year. It’s unforgettable. It’s completely mind blowing with it’s twists and turns and WTF moments. I was literally on the edge of my seat through most of this book. I never wanted this story to end. I didn’t want to say good bye to these characters. I love them so much. SO. MUCH. I don’t think I will ever be over this love story and the universe I became a part of.
The Kingwood Duet is one of the most soul searing love stories I have ever read. SL Scott killed me in the best possible way with her beautiful, emotional, heart stopping words. Savior was brilliant magic and simply unforgettable. This duet is one of my all time favourite stories from Scott. I'll never, ever forget it. Alexander and Firefly own my heart and soul. Like I said, MAGIC.
