About the Author

Sue Mac Nicol was born in Leeds, Yorkshire, in the United Kingdom. At the age of eight, her family moved to Johannesburg, South Africa where she stayed for nearly thirty years before arriving back in the UK in December 2000. She has written nine novels, two novellas and a screenplay since February 2012 and clearly believes in keeping herself busy. She has found herself wanting to stay in the genre that is M/M Romance so more can definitely be expected. Sue is a member of Romance Writers of America and Romantic Novelists Association in the UK. She is also a member of a rather unique writing group, called the Talliston Writer’s Circle, which in itself has a story all of its own to tell and lives in the rural village of Bocking, in Essex, with her family. Her plan is to keep writing as long as her muse sits upon her shoulder. Her dream is to one day make enough money to give up the day job and get that big old house in the English countryside overlooking a river, where she can write all day and continue to indulge her passion for telling stories.

I am going to start by saying that this is the very first book I have read by Susan Mac Nicol, and I doubt it will be the last. I was pulled toward this book after seeing a teaser on Facebook and it certainly grabbed my attention.

The story starts in a dark place for Alexander (Alex) and I started wondering just what he was involved in, and how it would play out. Then in walks Christopher Sage, who is known as Sage and I fell for them both. Separately each man has his own issues to deal with, but put them together and you have a fantastic combination which just works.

Of course, things are complicated, but why would we want an easy ride? Alex has his own demons to contend with, and so many skeletons in his closet, he needs new one to house them. But Sage’s caring and compassionate side shone through for me, making me believe every word, touch, glance would make Alex’s world better, even when he doubted it himself.

The dynamic between these two worked, and it felt so natural even though Alex fought against it, at times I wanted to shake him, but I totally understand his reasons, so I can forgive him :-)

There is an underlying mystery threaded through this story which I tended to forget as I was too enthralled by these two men, then I had my thoughts, and it turned out my sneaky suspicion which I’d dismissed was right.

I loved this book, the emotions were real and well thought out, the pace was good and I really enjoyed getting to know these two, I just wish here was more to come from them.

I began reading this author's work with 'double alchemy' as I love the supernatural, I have always been very wary of the standard romance but this lady's writing drew me in and there is something about the way she writes that captivates me so I began reading this book.
She paints such deep and vibrant characters that I just simply fell in love with. Alex's story is so touching and heart-breaking yet his strength and bravery were compelling to read and he is such a beautiful person. The journey both Alex and Sage's relationship takes is rollercoaster ride of emotions. Their love for each other is so sensual and endearing which shone out in its beauty among the awful torment of Alex's past. Sage has qualities that stand out and his passion and love for Alex rises above the tragedy Alex has been through.
I found myself drawn into this book without effort, I laughed...I cried and I sighed at the end.
Utterly brilliant in writing style...this author is now the exception to my rule of not reading romance which isn't of the paranormal variety. I can't wait to read more of this very talented writer's work!

Alexander Montgomery wrote his books with a specific actor in mind to play the lead character. So it was only a matter of time til he crossed paths with Christopher Sage. The attraction is instant and powerful. But Alex has a dark past, one that impedes the present and his future. Can Sage see beyond the man Alex was, and be the man Alex needs?

This was a holiday read, and hence the review is shorter than usual.

I enjoyed this. We are kept waiting for the true extent of Alex' past to be revealed. We are kept waiting as to who was causing all the trouble, and that was so NOT who I thought it was!

There is a great deal of pain in this book, both emotional and physical. It makes for a difficult read, but an extremely good one. Be mindful of triggers though, I can see that some readers would be affected by the topics in the book : rape, drug abuse, cults, kidnapping. There are some seriously psychotic characters here you gotta watch out for those!

I originally was gonna give this book 4.5 stars, but typing it up, I'm not going to quibble over half a star and am upgrading to the full 5 stars. Sometimes it happens, I stick to my original rating, and sometimes, I can't find a reason to give the lower rate.

so!

5 stars

Saving Alexander is one of those unique reads that you know Is going to play on your mind for day's to come after you have finished it.
From the beginning you know this is not going to be a easy to read romantic story instead it grabs your heart, plays with your mind and takes you on a scary emotionally charged ride that you have no chance of getting off.
I was totally engrossed in this book, the storyline was written so well dealing with rape' torture, physical and mental abuse that I found myself unable to stop reading even though my emotions were on high alert throughout. The characters I fell in love with and found myself wanting to protect and mother them especially when through all the dark times they were trying to build a relationship and be there for each other.
I highly Recommend this book....yes its a dark and emotional read but it is also a amazing M/M Romantic mystery which with take you on a journey you will not forget!

Susan writes the most amazing stories, and this one is no exception. Alexander is a famous author with a whole boatload of daemons he's trying to cope with. A set of stories he's written are going to be made into a TV series and the role is offered to Chris Sage, known to his friends as Sage. As the filming starts Alex and Sage start to form a rough sort of friendship, but Alex often blows hot and cold, leaving Sage not knowing what to do. Alex goes to club, where he's whipped, f****d, and degraded by Eric who works there, as he feels he needs to be cleansed of his past, but when Sage finds this out he has a hard time trying to accept that someone else is also having sex with Alex but still does his utmost to help and support Alex. There seems to be one hurdle after another that these two have to overcome, and it choked me up to see how these two struggle to stay together.
