I clearly accept this book is not aimed at me and I found it a little slow to start, but once it grips you, you’re off. Engaged with the characters and the mysteries within the story, desperate to know what happens next, at time as completely bewildered as the characters are. Many times I forgot I was reading a YA story. This is not only a great first book, but a great start to a series. Hopefully there will be many more.
If you enjoyed the Alex Rider book series, this is a must read.

This book was a fantastic combination of comedy, pop-culture references and dark foreboding.
Andy finds himself with the ability to time travel when life scares the socks off of him! After saving himself and his friends from lethal dangers, he discovers that there are dark sides to his newfound powers that hurt the people around him. He also inexplicably awakens an ancient evil that threatens to abduct him violently from the world. Hindered by his anxiety and immaturity, Andy faces the evil head-on with the help of his plucky and loyal friends, Ellie and Brian.
The three main characters are richly written with distinct, relatable personas who career headfirst (quite literally at times) through their deadly summer holiday. I found the premise of time travel through the medium of anxiety an interesting take on a classic theme that allowed the author to create something unique. I was unable to put the book down at times as the trio faced mortal peril and I just had to know if they all survived!
The pop-culture references were subtly scattered throughout and I found myself rereading sections trying to remember which film, TV series or video game from which they originated. These helped lighten the mood at points in the story, which made the drama all the more intense. Although there are some scenes that drag on a bit long, these are thankfully rare and the story flows into a coherent, exhilarating ride.
'Save yourself Andy Parker' offers an interesting twist on time travel and I would recommend it to anyone interested in this genre.

This is a really enjoyable book. I was a bit sceptical as I know the book isn’t necessarily aimed at adults but it’s everything I like in a fantasy story.
You want to understand how time travel works for the main character Andy, and you are drawn in with the concept right from the start. His two best friends are also characters you want to know more about. They are supportive yet sceptical about what’s happening to Andy but they are always there when he needs them. There are a couple of times in the book where I should be doing something other than reading but you need to know that the three friends are ok. The ending of the first book leaves you wanting to read the second book straight away. I hope we aren’t kept waiting too long. Overall an exciting book from a new author.

Debut author Thomas Sheen has really written something good here. The book, a story about a young English boy called Andy Parker and the strange power he discovers he has, is a fun read. The story is well-paced and exciting, with lots of mysteries to figure out. Lots of fun pop culture references really ground the tale which gets quite thrilling as it reaches its conclusion. I’d recommend this to anyone looking for a quick, entertaining read. The author’s writing style is easy to follow and this book would be great for teenagers looking for a quick fix after finishing Hunger Games or Harry Potter. I very much look forward to the next instalment!

Brilliant book for teens (although maybe on the older side as the vocabulary is pretty advanced and there’s some *gasp* swearing). Fast paced and exciting to follow. Well written with rich descriptions. I enjoyed it very much.

I'm glad that I stuck with this and by the end I was really bought into the characters. I'm looking forward to the next instalment. The dark moments are excellent with some good twists.
