They had everything. Now they have nothing but the will to survive . . .
When a group of mining executives bring their wives to the South Pacific paradise of Paui, vacation is not on their minds. Having found rare minerals on the island, they are determined to strike a swift deal for mining rights.
While their husbands visit a copper mine, the women explore the beautiful coast by luxury yacht. On the return trip, the yacht breaks down and they are forced to finish the journey on foot. Although the initial pages were slightly muddling (in fact I missed many references which crop up later in the story, so read the prologue and early chapters carefully) the story soon picks up pace, maintains drama and is, honestly, in every sense of the word, a page turner. For a book of well over 600 pages (about 300 pages more than the usual books I read), I just couldn't put it down. The story whips along and the characters are engaging (even the short-lived men, as well as the women).
Ok, ok, there are portions when you need to suspend your disbelief and allow the author some rope (seriously, these women are tough ol' broads and settle in to jungle life far too quickly to be believed) but that's not a criticism of the well written text and planned storytelling.
I'm off to read the latest Shirley Conran re-issue now ('The Revenge' - looks fabulous!) but couldn't do that before I encourage y'all to read this one (and 'Lace' of course) too.
Enjoy this sensational tropical classic!
Make sure you buy THIS COPY with the PROLOGUE in - the Prologue is very important to the rest of the book.
I hope everyone who reads this book enjoys it as much as I do.
I have the hardback copy and now having KINDLE copy is wonderful.
Kindle is amazing for being able to make the FONT the right size so your eyes dont get tired.
Kindle is amazing because the hardback book is huge and kindle is so light and easy to hold.
Both of these things are important because once you get into this story you wont want to put it down.
I cried some bitter tears at the halfway point but at the end they were happy tears.
I can't recommend this book highly enough!
