This was a fantastic story. I loved how it slowly built up and had me wondering what the hell was going on.
Sara Jane is a young naive girl who happens to catch the eye of the gorgeous Alexander Kingston. The son and aire to the Kingston fortune.
He's drawn to her beauty and her innocence. He needs to make her his.
But with secrets and lies between them will Sara ever know the real Alex.
This book was very intense and I was immediately swept along with how much Alexander and Sara Jane loved each other. There's is an epic romance.
Then when Sara learns Alex has been hiding secrets from her things may never be the same.
I swear that ending my nerves can't handle it. I may have screamed a lot.
Seriously WTF!!! How could it end like that.
What a cliffy to end all cliffys. Luckily I love them and I'm desperate for the next part. I can't bloody wait.

I really wasn't enjoying this book to begin with, not keen on the style of writing. It was all very lovey dovey, cliche quotes and the story seemed to be very bitty.
Once I got to about 50% it started to get interesting so I continued, parts of the story seemed quite rushed... but it was good, it kept me hanging on & I'm glad I finished it.
I'll probably read the second one, but not in any massive rush to do so.

S.L. Scott is one of my favourite authors and yet again did not disappoint. I was so looking forward to getting comfy, settling down and getting entirely engrossed in this story.

Alexander Kingwood but likes to be known as King. That title suits him well for someone so young. He is regal in his stature, commands respect and gains the attention of those around him by simply walking into a room. Rich beyond measure but not flashy with it is a bonus from my point of view. When he loves, he loves with his entire being and the lucky girl that is the recipient of his devotion is Sara Jane.

Sara Jane. Beautiful, young and head over heels in love with Alexander. Still in school and studying hard but still finding the time to be with the one she loves. Their relationship is not all plain sailing. There are silences and absences that are unexplained. She may have been dating him for the last three years, but he has secrets and secrets that he is not willing to share. Sara Jane can wake up in the early hours of the morning  and find his side of the bed cold and empty. Where has he been? Has he been with someone else? All these questions are spinning inside her head and let me be honest, in mine too. Even though she trusts him explicitly, I don't quite yet.

Alexander is afraid that by sharing his secrets with Sara Jane, he will either lose her forever or she will stay with him for all time. Alexander reveals his secret and she is left reeling from the information but it all comes down to one thing. She loves him and can't be without him. Finding out the truth has a devastating effect on all of them and that includes friends and family.

Wow, what an ending and what a book. It's a cliffhanger but thankfully we don't have to wait too long until the second book is out. I was gripped from the very start and enjoyed every page - even when the reading wasn't easy. The writing style definitely has a feel of it's own, but was one that I very much enjoyed. It had a deep, solemness about it.

The pace of the book was good, with the action flowing steadily and smoothly. I also liked the 'reminiscence' scenes that were dropped in at various points, in order to give some back story when extra understanding/information was needed. The book is very unique and the plot had so many unexpected twists and turns. There was also a lot of smoke-and-mirrors going on, leaving the reader as confused, indecisive and unaware as Sara Jane often seemed to be. I loved this effect and the emotion it evoked in me.

Whilst I utterly adored Sara Jane, she did make some very naive decisions on occasion, leaving me wanting to give her a good shake. Then I reminded myself that she is not quite 21 and allowed to be a little gullible. Whilst Alexander clearly worships the ground on which she walks, he doesn't seem to always put her first. The struggles in their relationship and their lives provided a lot of both angst-filled and emotion-filled moments. This book actually made me feel quite stressed and anxious at some points - which should make it bad but actually made it so very, very good.

The whole book feels like one long struggle, and whilst this means it isn't an 'easy' read it also means it is one that touches your very heart and soul. Sara Jane battles to convince Alexander to open up and be totally honest with her and then she fights to become strong enough to survive with him.

“That day as the rain came down, I made sweet Sara Jane Grayson my mission. With nothing left to lose, I vowed to steal her heart and own her soul.”

On the day he buried his mother, Alexander Kingwood spotted Sara in the rain, wearing her Catholic schoolgirl uniform. He wanted her from the moment he saw her. She became the light, the goodness, in his dark, twisted world.

“To the outside world, he’s King. To me, he’s Alexander. Everything.”

When Sara first saw him, he took her breath away. She had no idea how much he would change her life. She could see that there was a darkness in him, but she didn’t even try to stay away from him.

OH MY GOD! This book was fantastic! It had a dark and edgy fairytale quality to it. I liked that this book starts out with the couple already established. We get flashbacks to the past of how they met and events that happened, as well as the unravelling of the story in the present.

“Can I save him before he destroys himself and me along with him?”

There is so much mystery and so many questions in the story, as well as a whole lot of love between Alexander and his ‘firefly’, Sara. He is such a driven young man, with so much anger and bitterness seething below the surface. Sara is his balm, his calm, his sanity. He often disappears and she never asks questions. However, one day, she’s prompted to ask them and she struggles to cope with his revelations, or even accept what he’s doing.

And, the LOVE! My god, these two were just SO IN LOVE! They were young but they were in it FOR LIFE! They are like a drug to each other. Sara is often bewildered by what Alexander sees in her. Alexander can’t seem to make her understand that she is absolutely everything to him.
