Sara Jane is a young naive girl who happens to catch the eye of the gorgeous Alexander Kingston. The son and aire to the Kingston fortune.
He's drawn to her beauty and her innocence. He needs to make her his.
But with secrets and lies between them will Sara ever know the real Alex.
This book was very intense and I was immediately swept along with how much Alexander and Sara Jane loved each other. There's is an epic romance.
Then when Sara learns Alex has been hiding secrets from her things may never be the same.
I swear that ending my nerves can't handle it. I may have screamed a lot.
Seriously WTF!!! How could it end like that.
What a cliffy to end all cliffys. Luckily I love them and I'm desperate for the next part. I can't bloody wait.
Once I got to about 50% it started to get interesting so I continued, parts of the story seemed quite rushed... but it was good, it kept me hanging on & I'm glad I finished it.
I'll probably read the second one, but not in any massive rush to do so.
Told in first person, from dual perspectives, this story starts out slow, leaving no doubt that the love between these characters is beyond intense. A soul deep kind of love "We'll never love anyone as much as we love each other." The sensual & sexy physical attraction between these two is nothing short of hot. There also is no room for doubt, that this is a tale of good versus evil, light versus dark, just as much as it is a romance "I love you, both the dark and the light.", "I never knew life could teeter between good and evil so easily..." There is a lot of build up before the nature of the mystery is revealed & I was unsure where the story was going for a while (DON'T let that deter you). Expect surprises even after the mystery is revealed with more, twists & turns, & an ending that comes to quickly.
S.L. Scott has the wonderful ability to draw you in, building the story, getting you invested to the extreme without even realizing it! At first glance, I didn't think the slow build was necessary, honestly thought it was a bit much, just to add to the mystery of it all... until the very end. This is an epic love story that I never saw coming... I love Alexander & his knight in shining armor - "determined to be everything she would ever need." way with Sara Jane. I love Sara Jane & the insurmountable strength she didn't know she had - "There's nothing ugly about the firefly. Just like her, its strength is illuminated in the darkest of times." Together they hold to the mantra "Don't let the world win." Oh my goodness how I hope that will be true... S.L. Scott summed up my thoughts on this story best: "I didn't love it because of the ending. I loved it because of the journey. Every love story has its burdens to bear. It's how they survive it that makes it great."
Alexander Kingwood IV and Sara Jane Grayson have been together for three years, ever since her senior year of high school. She was a breath of fresh air, innocence and purity to him. He was a mystery and an adventure to her. Together, their love burns fiercely, making whatever obstacle they face worthwile.
But Alexander has been keeping secrets from Sara Jane, wanting to protect her from the darker corners of his mind and past. His mother’s death haunts him, his father’s possible involvement tormenting.
Sara Jane has long excused his secretive behavior, but is becoming more and more frustrated with it. Demanding to be included, Alexander eventually opens up more to her. This also means exposing her to danger, including his father.
There are regular flashbacks in this story, showing how they met and how their relationship progessed. I like that this wasn’t a ‘how do they meet’ story, but we meet them while they’re already established as a couple. This allows the author to show struggles further down the road, forcing both of them to reevaluate their relationship on several occasions.
Alexander is a troubled young man, older than his years, but still needing to learn a lot. He doesn’t think he’s good for Sara Jane, but selfishly holds onto her. I can sort of understand his feelings in this, but by leaving the ball in her court, he pushes her away, hurting her in the process. I like how Sara Jane doesn’t put up with this, repeating the mantra Alexander instilled in her. She is strong.
There is some action and violence at several points in the story, but it’s written in a way that adds to the story and character development. The ending of this book was nerve-wracking, making me eager to read part two, Savior, coming next month.
