This is a good Priced item which has served me well- just got back from Scotland. So the bike rack has had about 20 hours on the road both motorway and singletrack road. It is easy to use and I've had no issues with it at all. My bike is heavier at the back not sure if all bikes are like this so I added a few bungee straps to make sure the bike didn't move at all. Obviously you can't really use your rear windscreen wiper with this on. My car is a Toyota Yaris five door and it was easy to fit. Very happy with this product and price.

Seriously impressed with this bike rack. Very easy to fit to the car, even easier to mount the bike onto the rack. Very sturdy, bike does not move at all whilst driving. Would recommend using with protect-o-pads and a strap to secure front wheel to frame.

I purchased this rack having read the reviews and I have to say it works an absolute treat. The Saris Solo is a simple yet very effective bike rack that anyone can use with utmost confidence making sure of course that it can be fitted to your particular car. You can purchase blocks from Saris to attach to your bike to prevent damage to the car and bike or like me improvise with items such as bubble wrap and foam to achieve the same results. For those people looking for a safe, secure, single bike rack this is the one.

It is true that the straps have to be very tight and that you do need additional bungees and foam on a protruding fork (if you take the wheels off), but it did work well and after the first 50 miles, and several checks, I was able to relax and drive with confidence! I have done about 200 miles of which 70 miles were motorway and the other was more testing (including the Lake District). Don't forget your limits: 65 mph and 35 kg (I had to remove one wheel of the mountain bike to be under the limit, but actually removed both).

Bought for my 2016 Mini Cooper as an emergency measure should I ever need to go and collect my husband from anywhere! Great rack, fits nicely on the back of the mini and doesn't take up much room in the boot, which is a bonus!

I was apprehensive about using the Solo when I took it out of the box! It does appear a little"plasticy", but in practice is very strong. You will need to experiment with the best position of the upper and lower pairs of rubber feet in order to avoid body features and the rear wiper. (I'm fitting it to a BMW 120) Metal hooks are attached to the four lengths of tension webbing; they are easy to fit with the hatch closed, although I did glue a small piece of neoprene to the surface which is in contact with the "external" paintwork. I guess that if you try to pad the angle of the hook, it would be difficult to fit correctly.
My method of fitting is to get the two upper straps to the correct length so that the carrier is in the best position; the lower straps can then be attached. The straps are tightened with a sturdy metal friction device. The bike can then be mounted in the carrier cradle in the best position to suit your frame geometry, ensuring that it is roughly central; two "cable clip" type devices hold the crossbar in place. Loading the bike will cause the carrier to take the weight and settle, so the lower straps will certainly need to be retightened. There is an anti-swing restraining strap attached to the lower left webbing - this goes around the bottom frame tube; it's a bit fiddly to fit as it is a little short for my bike. I have added a couple of other items; first, a 24 inch bungee cord connects the wheels, both stopping them from rotating and also keeping the handlebars restrained from turning. Second, I made an "envelope" out of 3mm thick neoprene and Duck tape which fits over the pedal nearest to the car, thus avoiding an expensive visit to the body shop! On my car, the pedal sits on top of the bumper.
