Considering the price I paid for this, the specifications are quite high, an AMD Raedon processor with 2BG DDR3 memory is a lot more than the most common graphics cards in this price range.
I do have a little bit of disappointment as I did intend to connect three monitors as the card has three outputs (HDMI DVI and VGA) but the software cannot cope with more than two even though all the monitors are recognised but one of them is always disabled no matter what tweaking and twiddling you do. Maybe the software, AMD Eyefinity will be updated one day to let the product perform all of its capabilities. So it means the software has lowered the rating but the quality and performance of the card itself is excellent.
I had checked with pc store on the high street and for my needs and budget he recommended this unit, i then shopped on amazon for a better price than the high street (saved 30euro)
Unit was simple to install, just plug it in, came with driver disk also, was up and running in 15mins.
Have not noticed any extra fan noise, or experienced any problems.
Microsoft experience score went from (Gaming 3.7, Graphics 4.1) to Gaming & Graphics 6.8, which is a nice improvement.
Desktop is a few years old, running AMD Athlon II (x2) 2.8Ghz, 6GB DDR3 RAM, Running display off DVI port to 21" digital display.
Card has VGA / DVI & HDMI outputs, takes power from PCI slot, so no issues with cabling etc..
My son is delighted with improvement in his gaming experience, can play now at high quality graphics and no lag at all.
It has a nice feature that can utilise system RAM for use with the graphic card, but the motherboard needs to support it.
The price is good for a graphics card with 2Gb of Graphics RAM.
You also won't find many (if at all) GPU's with the 2GB dedicated at this price range either, great if you are on a tight budget or don't have alot of RAM. It is also very quiet.
Overall I recommend this card as a "Babbie's first" GPU for a budget gaming rig.
I wrote this review mainly in case anyone with a 2006 (or maybe newer) Mac Pro is looking for a new graphics card. I am running Lion on my Mac and this graphics card is working fine. One caveat is that without flashing it with a Mac firmware you don't see the initial Apple logo or the OS chooser when you start the Mac up - the screen only comes on when the OS proper has loaded. Lion has drivers that work fine with this card (ATI HD 6xxx series drivers) so there's no problem there. I'm keeping my somewhat broken 4500 in case I need to see any of the earlier startup screens (eg, hold option to choose a boot volume), though I've taken it out.
I don't think I can run 3 monitors from this for some reason - I have one connected by HDMI and one by DVI but if I tried to connect the second port of my main monitor via the VGA as well, to test a 3 monitor setup, it didn't seem to work. I haven't really looked into it, though, because I don't have a spare monitor handy to experiment with. Other people seem to report the same issue.
If you want an option which will work fully (proper EFI support) then Apple sell a 5770 which works in this Mac, but it's a heck of a lot more expensive, so this generic 'PC' card is a really good deal by comparison.
