Fantastic card

Paid £172 for this beauty of a card. Runs quiet, cool and is very quick. I also imagine it will overclock a treat (but i don't need to overclock yet as it's that good!)

The card i received is the new version of the Ghz edition from Sapphire. You can tell if you receive the new version by the fans on the card as they differ from the image of the item. New versions state Dualx.

I play BF3 and I can now use Ultra settings and get 50-65 fps solid on every map. Previously i had a 768MB 460 gtx and the difference is amazing!

One little issue, not with the card itself, but the drivers. I noticed that the GPU usage was only ever hitting 64%. This is a known bug with the AMD drivers for all 7870's. I'm using the beta drivers (12.11) and the issue is no longer there, so i expect an official release of fixed drivers any day now.

If you are taking the leap in buying a new graphics card, and are in a similar situation as I was, you wont regret it!

This GPU is brilliant a good higher end card for anyone serious about gaming. i have tried to max this card out on Skyrim, Assassin's Creed 3 and Eve Online. it walks over all of them, Eve online with my previous 5670 HD crossfire setup was just pulling 120fps with medium settings, i have it now on the highest settings and this card is pulling 170fps average, AC3 on high runs really smooth, and Skyrim just is not a challenge. this card at idle temp is dependant on your Towers airflow. for me at Idle it sits at 27c and 50c full load. i do however have a cooling fan that blows cool air directly at the GPU from a side vent. and also a 120mm fan sucking all the warm air out of the tower on the top. Airflow is everything when it comes to a cool tower. but even without this card will come into its own, the Pipe cooling system and duel fans are quiet and cool.

THIS IS THE GHZ EDITION. Amazon advertising the new GHZ edition at £240. i don't think they realize that this IS the GHZ edition.

All in all, this card is brilliant, high scores on 3d mark, outperforms any game available and does not need any over clocking.

This will future proof you for a good 2 years At least. if not, then buy another one and crossfire.

Really solid value

Before I bought it, I considered a few other cards:
-7850 is only a few £'s cheaper and it's a little unstable for a few games.
-7950 is worse value (little gain in performance for a big price jump).
-Any nVidia cards of a similar performance were also much worse value (although of higher quality).
I'd say this is one of the best value video cards you can get. It'll run almost any game on the very highest settings in 1920x1080 resolution (few examples of games that will probably not run on highest settings involve games with advanced PhysX, probably also The Witcher 2 though I haven't tried it. Same with Battlefield 3). Unless you have a lot of money to spare to buy a higher quality card of a similar performance, stick with this one. It really is good enough.

I bought this for my son, as it seemed the best bang for buck card, I was aware of the black screen/sound loop issues, but this is apparently the latest modified version without dodgy capacitors, been running stock for 2 weeks, no problems (XP & AMD Catalyst 12.6)

I can't really comment further on performance as I'm not into gaming myself, but he seems very happy with it.

This version is the Ghz edition, the fans have dual-X on them (in the centre) , not Sapphire as pictured on here,& as far as I'm aware, this denotes that the item is the modified version, so if you get one with Sapphire on the fans, think about returning it before installing it (well I would anyway).

As a side note, we intend to get Skyrim, & therefore have used AMD Catatalyst version 12.6,not the latest version, but later versions have known issues regarding flickering with Skyrim.

I would happily overclock this card once I know if/how it would affect the warranty, if anyone knows, please comment :-)

hmmmn...2 instances of black screen of death in the last week....one required a hard reboot...watch this space..

Brilliant performance, need I say more?

I bought this GPU a couple of months back when it was on sale at £175, THAT was a brilliant price. I'd still say it's brilliant now.

Onto the actual product it's simply amazing. I'm able to max out graphics on any game at 1080p, and play games at decent frames (30-40) on 2556x1440 resolutions. The dual fans on the gpu allow for great cooling, especially when overclocking (where I can clock another 200mhz core clock and 250mhz memory clock).

AMD have come a long way with their drivers, which I have faced no problems with, Catalyst control centre is a breeze to use to add to that. Sapphire is a trusted GPU brand as well.

To finish off I'd have to say this GPU sits between the nVidia GTX 570 and 580. With Overclocking it can surpass the 580 and be close to the Radeon 7950, so long as you OC carefully with adequate cooling.

Hell I can run PhysX with this and my i5. CAN'T RECOMMEND THIS GPU ENOUGH!

Black screen of Death and Buzzing Noise

I have had the card for about a month, but i have recentrly had to return the item due to a bug with the card (Hardware fault). Apparently some production lines of the card used some "Cheap" or defective capacitors and have led a lot of people feeling the pain of a "Black screen and buzzing noise" from the cards after maybe an hour of playing.

If you require more evidence of the issue then my only suggestion is to type "Sapphire HD RADEON 7870 Black screen" into google and read the results you get.

I would suggest that you avoid this card at all costs so that you do not get shipped with one of the defective cards. for an extra £20 you can get an ASUS version of the 7870 which does not have the above issue.

Anyway i hope that this information proves useful.
