There are few guide books dedicated to Santorini so, although I am not generally enamoured of the Thomas Cook guides, I picked this one for my recent holiday. If you are looking for a guide that would help to plan a holiday then I doubt this would be of much assistance - there is far more information available on the internet about accommodation and things to do. There is also a certain amount of padding with generic information that would only possibly be of use to someone on their first overseas trip.

In my view it isn't much use whilst you are there either. Where there is information it is frequently very superficial. Worse still, although the guide is described as the third edition, published in March 2012, it clearly hasn't been properly updated since the last edition which I believe was published in 2010. For instance, one restaurant is listed as being in Fira when in fact it moved from Fira to another village in 2010. Given that this was one of the top name restaurants on the island I would have expected the details to have been updated for the 2012 edition. The descriptions of some other restaurants in the guide seemed to bear little resemblance to the actuality.

The information about shopping was laughably inaccurate. According to the guide "the level of mediocre merchandise here is remarkably modest" and Oia is described as having shops which are "uniformly of a high standard" which explains why there was so much tourist tat! In Fira "there are a number of quality jewellery outlets with prices that are clearly marked and fairly fixed" although elsewhere it is noted that there are no bargains to be had and the shops are often aimed at the cruise market crowds.

I was going to visit Santorini in 2012 summer and found this little book very helpful especially coming to where to eat. I love the fact that this little book is so small that it can fit into a small handbag or shoulder bag. Map is clear and easy to read, and we follow the recommendations of what restaurants to go to and had very impressive food. There are other information for sight seeing sites, which give us some good idea where to go rather than just staying at the beach everyday.

I bought this book, as there is little choice on the market. There are so few books on Santorini.

Some of the other books on Greek Island such as Lonely Planet, DK and Rough Guide only dedicate a few pages to Santorini. There is no justification to buy it or carry a 300+ page book, if they only dedicate 4 pages to Santorini.

Thomas Cook should have updated their book, as there is no one else competing with them!

Handy pocket sized guide with adequate information for short stay holiday.Highlights each of the main resorts and places of interest adjacent to them. For more in depth info I would consider another publication.

I downloaded various information, and checked out other reviews, but this book, I think, has all you need, including maps, recommendations etc.

I bought the latest edition, 2012, when planning my trip. It's short and therefore easy to read in full and get an idea of what there is to see and do in Santorini. However, I'm now here in Santorini and the opening hours and even the opening days of the two main museums are incorrect. There is also a third museum in Santorini (in the town of Firostefani) showing copies of the wall-paintings from Akrotiri: for this the location moved two years ago to another town completely!

The book might be accurate for places to eat or stay (I didn't use it for this), but for cultural interest it proved thoroughly unreliable.
