There are some films that just have to be watched every christmas and this is one of them. It is a feelgood film for a feelgood time of year.
The story is simple. Scott Calvin (note his initials) is a divorced father who frequently lets his young son down due to his busy working life. That is until he accidently kills Santa Claus. To his disbelief and dismay, and his sons delight, he has to become the new Santa. The film follows his changing life and attitudes and shows the newly developing relationship between father and son.
There is nothing taxing or complex about this movie, just a heartwarming, funny story that is ideal for all the family. Watch and enjoy.

Great film for all the family, really gets you in the Christmas spirit and lets you fly away into a fantasy world, which even as a 30 something year old you would like to be true.
The acting is great and all the main characters from the first film are all included letting you see how time has treat them.
I can recomment this to all children of all ages.

For me, this is a perfect Christmas film. It struggles towards the end and gets overly whimsical and Tim Allen's son is a bit of a spoilt brat, but that aside, the blend of humour and the "explanation" of how Santa does it all is really good. I used to watch this with my kids when they were younger.

This time round (watched it last night) there were elements I was thinking "whatever" about, as they were way too overly obviously tugging at the heart strings. However, overall, it still felt much more "Christmassy" than a lot of the other so called classic out there.

Let me start this review with, what some might find, a controversial statement, I like Tim Allen. I especially like Tim Allen and Disney, it's comfortable, it fits, it just works. I know haters of Allen would say that he is not a very good actor at all, that he hasn't really got any range, and I would completely agree with that, but I don't think that is a bad thing at all. Let's think of some actors that don't really have the range that some other thespians may have; Hugh Grant, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Woody Allen and to a certain degree, Tom Hanks. If you really think about it, all of these guys play the same character in every film, but all of these guys are pretty successful. Why do you think that is? Because Hugh Grant is brilliant as the hopeless romantic, Arnie is the undisputed king of action; Woody Allen is lord of narcissism and introspection and Tom Hanks is really good as that nice man from Splash. The same thing applies to Tim Allen, Tim Allen IS generic stereotypical American male. And that is why I like him, he has become such a master of his craft in portraying generic American male that he doesn't need to stretch he fills the role more comfortably than a cat on a cushion.

That is why this film is enjoyable, it has all the right ingredients, with a topping of Disney magic that just seems to make Christmas a bit more real for everybody. Sure it has an extremely predictable story arc that almost seems to wash over you, but this is what Tim Allen does, and by god does he do it well.

I do like the concept of this film, it sort of builds on the story of Santa in a way that actually makes the whole fantasy more believable, and we all love a bit of word play don't we? "Claus" and "Clause".

This is a lovely film that our enire family enjoyed. Tim Allen brings a sly sarcasm to the role that adults will enjoy, because this tends to help the movie avoid the surrupy sentimentality of most Christmas movies. Might not be good for very little ones as much of the film centers around whether or not Santa actually exists. I would suggest that it's probably fine for kids of 8 and above, depending of course on their level of maturity. (Our six year old son asked us to skip the part where the original Santa dies.) Is this one of the greatest films ever made? No, but it does provide a wonderful opportunity to get the whole family (even the teens) together to share a few laughs.

You cannot get any better than watching 'The Santa Clause' every Christmas. This year I upgraded my old worn video version to a state of the art DVD. The movie is still a timeless classic that I will watch year after year. Love film 2 and 3 also. Fab trilogy.
