As a non-techie person, I was a little bit apprehensive ordering this kit, especially with all the negative reviews. Spurred on by greatbrit's review and a maddeningly slow Windows 10 computer, I took the plunge and am so glad that I did. No problems with the cloning - didn't even need to do the fix that greatbrit used (maybe they've updated the software?). Just did what the very basic instructions told me to do and it took about 2 hours on a very slow computer to clone everything. As greatbrit advised I was patient while the software took it's time to go through it's stages and left the 'shut down pc when completed' box checked. So no real problems. My very old Sony Vaio vgnnw20ef is now functioning again at an acceptable speed for less than half the price it would have cost at the local computer shop (sorry local shop but you're charging £86 for a 240gb ssd and £40 for an hour's labour = rip off!). Other points: if you want to register the ssd at Sandisk then make a note of the serial number - I think it must be on the ssd itself but I'd already put this in by the time I got to the registration process and didn't really want to take it back out. Also, my original hdd was 300gb with about 130gb of info on there - it wasn't a problem cloning this onto a smaller (240gb) ssd. So, overall a very good experience to keep an ageing computer going - which because of so many negative reviews prompted me to do my first Amazon review - please click if it was helpful :)

I was building an experimental Linux machine and doing a lot of reboots on a 250GB hard drive. I know Linux does not usually need a lot of reboots but this project was tricky. I had to reformat and start again quite often.
So I thought, I'm wasting so much time waiting for this hard drive, I'll get an SSD. There are lots of respected names in HDD who are in SSD but it made sense to me to buy a brand respected for solid state storage.
So SanDisk it was.
There is an art to buying the right size SSD. With a hard drive you just buy a big one as they are all cheap enough. With an SSD they get expensive as they get bigger. I recently bought a 32GB SSD for £12 off ebay which was fine for what I wanted it for but stupidly small and of no use for general projects.
However 240GB would make a good upgrade to an old laptop once I have finished my experiments.
There is a reason why it's 240GB and not 256GB which is a more usual computer number. I believe it's actually 256 internally but they reserve the extra space for evening up the 'wear' on the drive. An SSD memory cell is actually a little rechargable battery and we all know what happens to them after lots of charging and discharging. So data is not written to the same area all the time, different parts are used. Imagine if you could spread the wear on your lounge carpet. It would not get worn out in the doorway and floor in front of the sofa. It would last longer.
Anyway with the SSD I can do my Linux experiments much faster now.
PS, remember to get one of those adaptors so it fits in a normal drive bay.

Great little drive, unfortunately, it only lasted 4 months. Trying to send it back under RMA now (which seems to be a mystery process right now).
No apparent reason for the failure, just turned on PC one day and it had died.
Disappointing really.

The 2014 Mac Mini is generally regarded as a dog, because it's underpowered out of the box and (unlike earlier versions) can't really be upgraded (soldered RAM, etc.)
However I saw a YouTube video suggesting to put an SSD in an external USB3 enclosure and use this as the boot drive and I wondered if it would actually make a difference. The answer is yes...very much so.
The process is really easy, the parts are really inexpensive, and the end result is quite astonishing. I would strongly recommend anyone with a 2014 Mac Mini to try it, and this particular SSD is both perfectly compatible and a really good price.
I don't think I'm allowed to put external links in a review, but step 1 is to back up your Mac using Time Machine, and Step 2 just go to YouTube and search for "Install & Run macOS Sierra on External SSD or USB Flash Drive". The whole process took less than an hour, and most of it was unsupervised. It's also risk-free because this does not open the Mac at all. Note that I'm using High Sierra, but the same process applies.

Purchased 240gb version, I installed into my lenovo G50 laptop with no problems. The Sandisk cloning software is tricky to find, it is NOT in the Sandisk dashboard program as stated on the packaging! to find it go to sandisk.co.uk click on support and in the search box type 'Acronis True Image WD Edition' and it will take you to the download link, the software is easy to use and I cloned my disc (about 120gb data) in 50 minutes. The laptop really is much faster now to boot and load programs, the web seems about the same but I am fortunate enough to have very fast broadband anyway. The 1tb disk I removed in now fitted into the DVD drive slot using a caddy (see my other reviews) and contains my vids, photos and documents leaving the SSD to run windows and programs. Really happy with results and hope the SSD remains reliable.
