Replacement failed on its first use, however Windows was able to repair the drive after a few restarts. I'll see how long the second one lasts.
Clearly a major fault with these drives.

After very little use, the USB connection has detached itself from the rest of the drive. Broken and no access to data. An obvious design fault.
HOW TO RESCUE YOUR SANDISK EXTREME SSD
The USB connections on these drives have been poorly soldered and will often:
Remove rubber edges to reveal the screws placement
Cut rubber backing away with craft knife.
Remove scews and remove outer casing until you are left with the circuit board.
Remove the 2 inch SSD adapter with two screws.
