|LED Display Technology: LED (light-emitting diode) TVs are actually a type of LCD TV. LCD HDTVs use standard compact fluorescent tubes to illuminate the picture. LED HDTVs, on the other hand, replace those fluorescent tubes with backlighting technology. LED TVs might therefore say "LCD display" on the packaging--this is perfectly normal. The TV arrived well packaged, and after relatively few minutes it was up and running, and working through the menu system finding all the channels available - nice touch being able to just scan Digital channels, rather than the interminable run through non-existent analogue as well. It also picked up much more than the old Toshiba it was replacing, which was quite a surprise, but no HD channels, which was even more surprising seeing it is supposed to do so.
Straight out of the box the picture was very good, and after a few tweaks was almost exactly to my liking. Even more surprising was the sound; much better than the average small flat screen TV, with almost none of the sibilence normally associated with them. Again, a few minutes playing with the menu, particularly using the modest sound equaliser, and it was perfect for a bedroom TV.
So why no HD - I tried rescanning, selecting the channel/frequencies manually, and then rang Samsung direct to see what I had done wrong. Initially Samsung support didn't even know they sold this set in the UK, but eventually came up with the bad news that it wasn't a Freeview HD receiver, which was a shame as it was the main reason I bought this set.
Overall this is a really good little TV, but without the Freeview HD I would not have paid the premium price for this size screen, so back to Amazon it goes, if somewhat disappointedly. If you want a small screen TV with a good picture and better than average sound, buy this one; if you want Freeview HD integrated in the set, Don't!
Stupidly simple to setup, easy to use, and picture quality is brilliant.
I previously had a Tesco TV with a WDTV Live box connected which allowed wme to access files on the downstairs computer and access BBC i-Player and one or two other optios. Although this worked well, I decided to upgrade to a supposedly better TV with inbuilt streaming capability and access to Smart TV. Thus began 2 weeks of frustration resulting in the return of the TV. I will now list some of the problems. I have subsequently returned the TV and purchased a Sony TV which I installed and had running within half an hour, the internet set up, files streaming, the works.
1. Picture. Pretty good picture, though there is a tilt function to get a better picture whilst led on the bed. This worked ok though the picture was poor when stood up.
2. Reception - suprosingly bad. I have had no problem with the picture on my previous Tesco TV and subsequently had no problem with my new Sony TV. The picture on the Samsung TV kept breaking up as if there were poor reception.
3. Sound. Rubbish.
4. DNLA set up. Appalling. I hard wired the tv and could not get it to find the files. Using Samsungs All share, it found the files but wouldn'tplay them. Then logged out and returned to the main screen. To log in you have to type username and password using the tv remote!
5. Smart TV - No BBC i-Player, no catch up tv what-so-ever. Its not veryu smart if you ask me.
6. Apps - it says there are thousands of apps. There isn't. There are some apps, most of which are rubbish.
7. User Manual - When I bought the TV there was no user manual on the web site.Read more ›
