Style Name: Presence SensorVerified Purchase

I bought this as a sticking-plaster solution to the problem that the Android SmartThings app has never been very good at doing the job of a presence centre (I really shouldn't have to get my phone out and unlock it to disable my alarm while I'm carrying 4 bags of shopping). In this respect it does a very good job and the sensor is detected promptly as I approach the house.

The biggest gripe I have with this device is that instead of making it rechargeable, Samsung decided to make it consume CR2032 batteries which last for about a month each (and I'm using decent Duracell batteries). Yes you can buy rechargeable CR2032s but not making this USB chargeable seems like a backwards step.

Like other SmartThings sensors it's not very durable. After about 6 months the little plastic clip that holds in the battery snapped off and now I have to glue the battery in each time I change it.

So my SmartThings Hub is 4 metres away from the Moisture Sensor and its not been able to maintain a reliable connection. Frequently it disconnects and the only thing you can do is remove the battery to re-establish the connection. I have the same problem with my Motion Sensors. Very poor in my opinion.

On the plus side, my WeMo switches and Hue Light Bulbs work just fine with the hub.

I bought the Hub from Amazon and opted to buy a Fibaro single switch relay to connect the bedroom lights. The hub and relay worked together without any issue (although not officially supported). The best thing with the Hub is it's compatibility with other z wave products. I've now added a smartthings motion sensor which works with the lights (Fibaro relay) and connected alexa. I've now added mobiles as presence sensors and will be expanding with more devices shortly. Great products for newbies.

Great concept let down by really poor quality sensors

The SmartThings hub itself appears to work well the with Samsung SmartThings app and ties in well to my Philips Hue set up. I suspect it will tie in well to other smart home automation systems too.

There seems to be no way to adjust the sensitivity of the Motion Sensor with this kit which makes it less flexible that the Philips Hue version.

I've also had some issues with the various sensors that came with the kit. Unfortunately the multi-sensor that arrived with my starter kit had a battery that had leaked everywhere which Amazon sorted out without question. The AC Outlet SmartPlug developed a fault just after the return period and needed to be RMA'd back to SmartThings and took nearly a month to get replaced.

It's a great concept but I've found I've not really used the SmartThings kit to its full potential, mainly because the sensors seems to be quite poor quality and don't seem very reliable. I don't know if I'd want to leave anything plugged into the AC Outlet and the the other sensors seem to be renowned for giving false positives - i.e. the multi sensor might occasionally say it's in an open state when it is actually closed.

Think I'll wait for the next Smart home automation offerings to see if they are any better!

Completely unusable!
These are the latest 2016 version and have a huge delay upon detection of motion. I still have the older 2015 version which work instantly. Wish I had checked the ST community before purchasing these. Whereas many users are still having the same issue.
Purchase the 2015 model if you can get hold of them.

Ordered this (v2 with ethernet) from Amazon and received it on Saturday (amazing delivery service) - tried to set it up and it wouldn't register - spent a good couple of days trying to troubleshoot but in vain - used the old app, new app, opened ports, connected it directly to the virgin router - exhausted all possibilities from my end. Whats disappointing is that Samsung UK haven't bothered to come back to me let alone solving the issue......

So in summary - cant really comment on the product itself as it never worked......

EDIT - I called Samsung UK late last week and got through to their TV dept - the chap was attentive and friendly and assured me that someone from the SMARTTECH dept would be in touch. Later that day as promised I received an email - after multiple to and fro they managed to fix the issue. The issue was at their end - basically it seems like the device was showing up in "claimed" status and this could only be "unclaimed" from their end. I am not sure why a new device was showing as "claimed"

in any case - the device is working & stable and I am pleased with how Samsung managed to sort it out - albeit after a long delay - I have updated my rating from 1 star to 4 - as the product (now that it is working) has met my expectations.

I already have multiple "smart home" devices inc Honeywell Evohome, Philips Hue, Samsung Smart Oven, Logitech Harmony Hubs in all rooms etc so I was excited to give SmartThings a try. Unfortunately even though it promises a lot and you can really dig deep in to customising and creating a multitude of routines and scenarios, the basic hardware lets it down every time, particularly the sensors. After getting sick of resetting the sensors due to them reporting that they are no longer responding, I decided to return everything to Amazon for a refund.

UPDATED: *the sensors seem to eat cr2024 batteries, some lasting approximately one month!* Becoming VERY expensive to run!!!!
Easy to set up, if careful, works excellently:
DO NOT THROW AWAY THE INNER PACKAGING FOR THE HUB; ridiculously there is a small sticker UNDERNEATH, which has ALL the codes printed upon it!
(-1 star) as the individual items do not have the EXACT model number stamped upon them, so when setting it is not straightforward which icon to which product.
That aside, being methodical, they have all set up fine.
All seem to work very well, and respond instantly.
Many easy possibilities for setting/ triggers alarms/ emails / actions etc etc
Set up via the official APP, and remember these are Samsung smarttings in a sub icon selection (not the main).
Would recommend.
