I purchased this to replace the worn out CD/DVD in my Medion Erazer PC running Windows 10. Not being too tech savvy I was was a little apprehensive about fitting it myself, but after seeing various Youtube instruction videos I thought I'd have a go. After figuring out how to remove the outer case of my PC without wrecking it, removing and replacing the old unit really was self explanatory. This unit is not supplied with new leads and screws which is OK as it's a simple case of using the originals. The whole exercise took me about an hour and a half, but for someone more dextrus ( I'm coming up to 79), it should only take half that time. In my case my PC fired up with no problems first time, no change required to the onboard software. Once again I am really pleased with the speed of delivery from Amazon.

In my case it was a straight swop, the new device for a faulty SATA, DVD re-writer (of a different make!). The new device arrived on time was well packed and undamaged. Installation was straightforward (how often can one say this?). Firstly, I removed both side panels of the tower case, then removed both the power and data connecters from the back of the old DVD writer. Next, I removed the retaining clips, one on either side of the cage, and was then able to slide out the the old device through the front of the cabinet - stage one completed.
The new device was installed by following the previous process in reverse. I then successfully tested the new DVD re-writer by first playing a CD containing tracks of music, followed by a DVD full of old holiday photographs. Finally, I burnt a DVD-R containing an iso file of a linux distribution which I then successfully installed on an old laptop. As of today, 15/07/2014, I would have no hesitation in recommending purchase of this device. Of course, only time will tell how reliable it will turn out to be.

I bought Samsung dvd writer as i was building a new desktop pc for my Grandson.The dvd writer fitted straight into the pc with no problems. When i started up the pc the dvd writer was recognised straight away and it runs quite quietly . The price was brilliant and this unit was fine for normal days use also arrived quickly in a bubble wrap no fuss packaging.

These Samsung units are pretty decent for the small cost of purchase. As with most of these types of re-writers, you simply install them, switch your PC on, and it recognises the new addition and installs it with no problem. Mine is very quiet when playing a CD, and a bit noisier when burning or ripping, as would be expected.

For the price paid, ease of installation and performance you can't really go wrong. What else do you really need from an everyday use DVD Re-Writer. Would have given more stars but there are 'better' and much much more expensive products out there that might do the odd thing different but as a stock addition to any rig it doe the job, no issues.

This writer gave me no surprises. It installed fine and I have had no problems at all for installing games etc so far. It’s not too noisy but it’s not silent either. I originally purchased one of these: LiteOn IHAS124-04 24x SATA Half Height Internal DVDRW Drive - Black but I found it to be incredibly noisy even when just disk checking as soon as you boot your computer so I sent it back and went with the Samsung. If you are considering just a bog standard disk drive get this one not the LiteOn. Your ears will thank you.

It's pretty rare that you really need a DVD drive these days. I built my PC about 8 months ago and just decided to get one. So there's not a right lot to review. It works. Comes with the screws you'll need. It makes a slightly odd sound when it's in use, but it's far quieter than ones I've had in the past.

What can you say? I purchased this because of the Samsung name - I have several other items from them and they've always been good quality and reliable. This seems to maintain that reputation. I installed it and it worked - very quiet and reasonable speed. Unlikely to find a better product for this price.
