Easy PS4 Upgrade

I bought this hard drive purely for my Playstation 4, as I soon found that 500GB is simply not enough space, especially when downloading games from the Playstation store. At first I was going to just buy a new 1 TB PS4, and sell my 500 GB PS4 as I thought that would be the easiest thing to do and since never doing anything like this before I was slightly worried in case something went wrong. However, in the end I decided to buy this as it worked out cheaper than buying a new PS4 and I wouldn't have the hassle of selling my PS4. Also, by fitting this I would have double the amount of space compared to buying a new 1TB PS4 and I was concerned that I would easily run out of room on a 1TB PS4 too!

At first I was dubious about purchasing this as there are some negative reviews but I can safely say that I had no problems with fitting this hard drive to my PS4 and almost two years since fitting it I have had no problems whatsoever!

Before buying this I did plenty of research on what I needed to do - top tip purchase a USB or even two if you don't have any spare, as you will need to back up your Playstation data to one USB and download and store the Playstation Software to another USB as you will need to install this on the new hard drive. Transferring your data to your USB can take a while (mine took hours!), depending on how much data you have but make sure you do backup your data as the last thing you want is a new hard drive but with none of your data!

Another top tip is to make sure you install this hard drive on your day off, not after work, or after school as it will most probably take all day to complete, even two or three if you have a lot of data! As I didn't realise how long it would take, I broke it up into 3 days (technically a week but that was because I was so fed up with transferring my data to my new hard drive!), the first day I backed up my data, synced my trophies (make sure you do this otherwise you may end up missing some trophies!), downloaded the Playstation software and fitted the hard drive. Day two I installed the Playstation software and began the painstaking job of transferring my data (which I continued on day 3) - This actually took a week but this was only because I got so fed up and just wanted to play some ratchet and clank! I could have easily done it in 2 days - so what I did was installed the data for the games I played the most and wanted to play at the time - e.g. ratchet and clank and fifa, then when I didn't want to play any games I transferred the rest of my data.

Another top tip (make sure you read this!) - Make sure you download the correct Playstation software, this should be a 800 MB file, so make sure you check the file size, as there are two and the other one won't work as I soon found out.. When I downloaded the Playstation software (what I thought was the correct Playstation software) on my computer and copied it to my USB, my PS4 didn't seem to want to install the file.. I had made the mistake of downloading the wrong file and went into panic mode, thinking the hard drive didn't work but it was just because I hadn't downloaded the correct file. So whatever you do, make sure you download the correct file!

So, if you are looking to upgrade the memory in your PS4 I highly recommend purchasing this hard drive.

For anyone who hasn't done this before - there is plenty of help and advice on the web, especially YouTube, so don't be put off from doing this as it can save you a lot of money!

Wow, this was such and easy fix and the product worked straight out of the packet. My sons PS4 brick and was stuck in safe mode. Called a few places after the update and troubleshoot failed. Was quoted £100 to fix and a new hard drive.

Got this for £30 and took me 1 mins to install in my PS4, stuck in a usb drive with new PS4 install files from the official website and we were up and running in under 5mins.

Buy this product, absolutely amazing and worked straight out of the packet with no formatting or fiddling.

In all my years of being an Amazon member, this is my first review. If I waffle I apologise as there is a purpose to this review...

The new 2Tb hdd arrived a day early, due in stock on 19/08/2015 but was actually dispatched the day before and arrived the day it was due into the stock with the supplier, therefore cannot fault the superb service from the supplier.

With regards to the drive itself, I purchased it to upgrade my pitiful 500Gb in my PS4 as it was preventing me from purchasing any new games. The drive itself was a joy to fit, slide back the shiny cover, unscrew one larger screw, slide out the 500Gb drive and unscrew the four corner screws, easy. Once done, then repeat in the process in the reverse order. Could not be simpler.

Now comes the hard part, finding the CORRECT software to enable you to enjoy 2Tb HDD with the filling of new games. I did not have any joy scouring the internet, reading forums as they all directed me back to the 2.57 software patch which was 284Mb, as the patch required was nearer 900Mb. Sony were no help at all as I explained what I was looking for and they told me what type of drive I required, even though I had already purchased it, a bad review will be going back to Sony on this matter. I digress, I managed to stumble upon it whilst on a break at work, you will need to go to the following web address:

1 - www.playstation.com/en-gb/get-help/ps4-system-software/
Yes it does state "system software update 2.57" at the top but...
2 - Scroll down to where it says "Your option" / "How to update".
3 - Click on "Perform a new installation of the system software".
4 - Scroll down again to "[DOWNLOAD NOW]" and click...

You should notice that straight away it is downloading a larger file than the 2.57 alone which is around 284Mb, this was around the 800Mb mark so I was hopeful.

Be sure to put this on an external HDD, I had a FAT32 1Tb external HDD and created two folders and put the update file into, so it should look like:

E:\PS4\UPDATE\PS4UPDATE.PUP - All caps...

I plugged the external HDD into the PS4, turned it on and followed the instructions and eureka, it started to download the new file and reinitialise the HDD for the 2.57 update. After that it's just a case of loading all your saved game data back onto your PS4 to get it back to how it once was but with all that extra lovely space to fill. I had an initial overall space of 1.77Tb and will all my games back on there it still have 1.35Tb, roll on Star Wars!

One last thing, be sure to back up all your videos, pictures and game data BEFORE you swap over to your new HDD either online or to an external HDD or USB stick.

Overall, the supplier gave great service, the HDD works a dream, fits easily and enable me to have a huge library of games so don't delay, this is the HDD your PS4 is crying for, enjoy.
