Capture Things you Couldn't Before: 20x Optical Zoom, 40x Digital Zoom
Lightweight and compact, the QF20 goes wherever you go. But sometimes, you can't always get as close to the action as you'd like. That's where the stunning Schneider-Kreuznach lens with 20x Optical Zoom (40x Digital Zoom) comes in - it puts you in the middle of the action, even when you're far away. Capture the special smile of a loved one across the field, or a game-winning goal from the far end of the football field, or your favourite band - even from the back row. With the QF20, details are as crisp and clear as if you were shooting from up close.
Get Steady Hands: OIS Duo+
With OIS (Optical Image Stabilizer) Duo+, you can capture clear and steady video, even if your hands are wobbling. The QF20 combines a built-in OIS with digital image stabilization technology to prevent bumps, jolts, and wobbles from blurring your images. It will also compensate for body movement that happens while you're moving around or for the movement of the digital zoom. So whatever special moment you're filming, you'll have the peace of mind that it will be super-stable.
Just Add Music: Smart BGM II (with My Music)
Everyone knows that a soundtrack can really bring a film to life. Now you can put music to your videos with the inspiring Smart BGM II (with My Music) feature. Choose from a collection of orchestral themes to add to your movies. Or import songs from your PC's music library by using Samsung's Intelli Studio. And so you won't miss those all-important words, Smart BGM II automatically lowers the music when someone in your video is speaking. Now that's music to your ears.
A Setting for Every Scene: Smart Auto
Be ready for everything with the QF20's brilliant Smart Auto feature. Automatically select from one of 11 preset modes - such as Night, Natural Green, Macro and Portrait - to instantly compensate for a variety of varying light conditions or image details. It's easy to quickly pick the setting you want so you can capture a scene spontaneously and not worry about time-consuming setting adjustments.
Make Art out of Time: Time-Lapse Recording
Capture an event that takes place over the course of hours and present it in a fraction of the time. With the QF20's Art Time-Lapse Recording feature still frames will be captured at pre-set intervals. Then a high defintion file, with the stills presented in order, will be created. And with a variety of modes, including Night Time, Zooming, Panning and Reverse Playback, you will have even more creative options.
Keeping Video Recording Simple: Record Pause
The QF20 features a Record Pause mode which allows you to briefly pause a recording and then pick up right where you left off without creating a new file. It's a simple way to keep file numbers down, create only one file to work with and minimise the need for merging files for editing, sharing or transferring.
Add Some Fun: Shake it
Want to have some fun with your camcorder? Next time you're recording a get-together, party or any memorable event, have some fun with Shake It. Just shake your QF20 and the camcorder will randomly add one of several different digital effects to a scene. Shake It even works in Playback Mode, when it will embed pre-loaded music into your clip. So go on, shake it and see!
Clean and Crisp Touchscreen: 2.7" Smart Touch LCD
Change the way you look at things with the impressive 2.7" QVGA Touch LCD (230k resolution). The large screen delivers clean, crisp images that are saturated with natural color and deep, dynamic detail. And the size also makes the touchscreen easier to use to find the feature or content you're looking for.
Capture Images: 5.3MP Still Photo
Of course, it's handy to also be able to take a great photo whenever you want. That's why the QF20 lets you take vivid and vibrant images at 5.3 Megapixel resolution, without interrupting your video recording.

The camera is full of lots of little tricks, it is touch screen to navigate around the functions and has built in effects you can record with.
Image quality seemed good to me. However, the camera strugged to adjust the backlight when I was at a show recording something bright on stage but the rest of the room was dark.
Samsung have refused to refund or replace the camcorder.
Stay well clear!
There are some neat gimmicks such as: -
Inbuilt wifi for uploading to social networking sites without the need for a computer [like a cell phone]
A home button to access the touch screen menu [like a cell phone]
The ability to shoot left or right handed [like a cell phone]
The ability to shoot portrait mode [like most people do on a cell phone]
The good news is that it is tiny [not unlike a chunky cell phone} and comes with a cheap strap to assist in keeping it steady. It's comfortable to hold feeling like an electric razor. It is kind of cute and proudly emanates made in China from offcuts from cheap children's toys. Yes, not only China has a monopoly on poor fabrication, but this screams Cheap China Camera.
The not so good news is that once it boots up in around 4 or 5 seconds you're left wondering "Why not just use my iPhone? Why not just use my Galaxy?" The interface, the touch screen response, the image quality is..well...worse than VHS.
While Apple and Samsung are pushing 8MP cameras on their phones - the HMX-QF20 provides 5MP. It's not about the megapixels but trust me HD this is not. A GoPro Hero 2 is almost 4x smaller than this camera and they crack on at 11MP and produce images that blow the Samsung out the water. Talking of HD the HMX-QF20 shoots at 50i not 25p which means you get 50 half frames interlaced to create 25 full frames. The result is that if the camera moves or the subject moves, you get seriously jagged edges. Basically don't shoot video of anything that moves unless you like everything to appear as if it's just being transported from Star Trek. Would have been better off having 720p as most HD tvs are at least 720p.
For stills things get worse. Images are soft, poor color balance and look more like a webcam than a handycam. Scratch that - my inbuilt i-sight is better than this.
Samsung gave us the iPhone beater in its Galaxy series but if you are expecting a capacitive touch screen forget it. It's resistive so we are back to the tortureville of control last seen in the LG Viewty. The controls are frustrating, sticky and unresponsive and unless your fingers are the width of chopsticks the only thing you will do fast is return it to where you bought it from. Maybe LG had a whole tonne of parts from its nasty Viewty touchscreen and offloaded them to it's Korean techmate for a free bowl of bibimbap for as the dish suggests, the HMX-QF20 is a seriously mixed dish.
You get a whole menu of silly effects and an annoying array of icons that cover 15% of the tiny screen. Touching the screen hides them but you cannot preset it to start up without them.
You can also film in portrait mode....why?? So you can pretend you filmed it on a phone? Useless gimmick..
Manual focus - would you really want to be able to manually focus while filming? Well forget it - as the camera struggles to autofocus on anything but a white wall with a red target [try filming in the rain] you switch to manual only to find you have to stop recording before adjusting focus. Really? Really!!
Nighttime mode means ISO is increased to beyond any useable picture image except maybe CCTV usage.
Sound - The Inbuilt mics are sensitive and tinny. Don't shoot in more than a slight breeze but to be fair it would make a good voice recorder.
Finally the lens cover slider is located on the same side the faux leather strap. This means that the strap slides forward over the slider resulting in each power up, I spend a few seconds turning the camera round trying to find the slider. Placing a piece of orange tape on the top [or bottom if you use the hand of the devil] with an arrow helps with this annoyance.
If you wish to shoot "HD" movies while attempting to mimic a cell phone then this is good - just make sure your subject is only two contrasting colors, isn't moving and it's a bright day with no sound, think dead seal in frozen Canada and you get the picture. For stills if you wish to print postage stamps then this is perfect.
For the price with no accessories it sucks, for £100.00 it would make a good disposable camera. If you have a decent phone then you have no reason to buy this.
I'll attempt to post some samples but I'm a Jungle right now.
One star because if I get robbed I won't miss it.
