The best monitor I've used, ever.
4 out of 5 stars
The best monitor I've used, ever.
The black screen uniformity is perfect, must have won the lotto here. There is no blur on the edges. No bleeding, and I noticed looking at things from the side isn't even an issue as review sites like rtings have said. Althought U have made sure the monitor is aligned with my height / eye level.I noticed the picture clarity is more obvious then on my previous ASUS PG278Q, like I can see the pixels more easily on the taskbar. Test doesn't look as smooth as on my previous ASUS PG278Q ROG 144HZ Monitor but that's 27 Inches.Anyway, 240hz, zero ghosting and beautiful colours. I've always used non curve monitors so this time, I thought I would need time to adjust, nope. Within a few seconds that was it. I don't have to move my head any more because the curve is basically aligned with the curve of my eye (apparently).Is it effective? Depends, has moving one's head ever been a disadvantage for gaming?I watched videos from a side angle. It's literally the best monitor I've had, I'm actually surprised it has no bleed, and it's also BRIGHT. I toned the contrast and brightness down to 50s. The only thing I have not tested is HDR, but that's because I've never cared for it. Also it will dim the screen significantly, pointless then.Its mounted to my VESA Flexible arm using 100x100. It does not come with extra screws for mounting so you will need your own. It has a seperate metal bracket which screws into the monitor and then you attach your VESA plate. It certainly ruins the rear aesthetic but no one's looking at the back nor would care to. So just scratch this from your mind.ICosmetics? It looks really good, however the LED Lighting is nowhere near as good as the Alienware 34 Inch monitors (1st gen). Infact the LED lighting is terrible. Two basic ones under the front bezel, a tacky blue led for the power button and the rear lighting ambiance is so lame I turned it all off. The presets are a joke too. Have to take 1 star away for the LED lighting, it's honestly that disappointing.Comes with a big power brick and also an EU and UK plug. 3A Fuse inside I believe. It's 32 Inch so not light but way, way, wayyy lighter than the Alienware 34 Inch monitors. It also came in a bix about half the height, very well and simply packaged. Easy to assemble.Back to the screen, I have all settings on default apart from brightness and contrast. Adaptive Sync is on and I left it on because duh G sync. Local dimming is auto (blacks look super good).I'm no colour calibrator but honestly I just stared at my log on screen to appreciate the colour depth.There's a PIP feature, of no use to me or 90% of people.If you know about the PG278Q imagine it in size 32 and with better colours and slightly less text clarity. This is it.Oh and considering the size of the power block. The screen doesn't get warm like my old PG278Q.

I bought the 27" version of the G7, primarily for gaming with my new rig (Ryzen 3 5950X paired with an RTX-3090) but I also enjoy watching films and youtube documentaries. Overall I'm extremely happy with the purchase and am very impressed with the monitor.

Construction of the monitor stand is very easy - all you'll need is a phillips head screwdriver though there isn't one included in the box. All the other necessary cables are included, including a UK 3-pin power plug, display port cable and a USB cable. Putting the monitor on the stand took about 15 minutes including careful reference to the included instructions. The monitor is plug-&-play with windows 10 and worked immediately. Setup using the on-screen menus took another 10 minutes at most.

I'd previously been using a 9 year old 1080P monitor that was good at the time but oh boy, monitor tech has moved on! On the G7 picture clarity, brightness and colour gamut are all absolutely top quality. After some light tweaking colour representation is excellent as is the image contrast. Watching films is a real pleasure as is watching HDR content on YouTube.

Now on to gaming, which is what this monitor is really all about. And it is amazing. The 240Hz maximum refresh combined with G-Sync (which works perfectly) produces such a smooth gaming experience! Coming from an old 60Hz IPS panel the colour reproduction of the QD display together with the wide colour gamut, good contrast and 1440P resolution produces an amazing gaming experience, as long as you have the hardware to produce the necessary high frame rates. That being said, with more demanding games the monitor works equally well at 165, 144 and 120Hz settings so whatever refresh rates your games support, the monitor is capable of being right up there with them.

I should also mention HDR. The G7 is "only" HDR600 rather than the HDR1000 of it's bigger brother the G9, but the brightness is nevertheless impressive, actuall reaching above 600 nits local brightness in most 3rd party tests. Enabling HDR in games that support it (I'm using it in Ghost Recon Wildlands & Assassins Creed Valhalla) produces startlingly impressive visuals. It's far from being a gimmick and having experienced HDR gaming I don't ever want to go back to SDR.

I suppose I'm lucky that my monitor has never experienced any of the flickering issues that others have reported. Maybe the monitors that are being shipped now have the updated firmware that eliminates the issue. In any event my experience with the G7 has been nothing but positive. I'm very, very impressed. Yes it's expensive but if you want a top quality gaming monitor but don't want to go all the way to 4K then this is one of the very best options available.

Final note - the curvature of the screen took a day or so to get used to it but after that feels very natural to view. If you have any concerns over the curvature then I'd say don't be worried - it'll probably feel natural in no time.

Very highly recommended.

A "Gamer's" review of the Odyssey G7.

Don't imagine anyone who isn't heavily into gaming is buying this but anyway. This isn't going to have much empirical, technical analysis. Many places were you can find response time graphs, colour performance etc.

So to start off, the Odyssey G7 is a 1440p, 240Hz monitor. Literally perfect specs imo (really don't give a f*** about 4K as 120fps on most games is still not achieveable and I prefer high framerates to resolution) what you get in this monitor is a very future proof option. 1440p is a very good middle-ground in a much better resolution than 1080p while being able to drive games at high framerates. I picked this bad boy up at just under €500 during Black Friday which take it or leave it, might add to my sense of value in this monitor.

Let me address the elephant in the room if you heard anything about this monitor: Yes, this monitor did have a very bad flickering problem when using Freesync/G-Sync. My unit did arrive with the flickering problem but updating to the latest firmware rectified the problem and I no longer have this issue.

I'm just going to talk about the gaming experience as that's all I care about. As I stated before 1440p is a good middle-ground, a noticeable improvement in picture detail especially on the 27" model due to the pixel density giving sharper images. 4K looks nice but without the whole suite of HDR, OLED etc., I honestly believe it's overrated. Single player games are going to look great regardless because it's not 1080p and you won't have to turn down your settings to compensate as much for the stress 4K puts on your GPU (dependant on setup but if you're spending this much on a monitor, I hope you have a good setup).

You will notice the difference instantly on the desktop where text looks a lot clearer and then in-game, a nice increase in clarity. A very nice feature for dual platform gamers such as myself is this monitors "virtual 4K support". This is really only a plus on the PS side as Xbox Series X natively supports 1440p anyway while the PS5 does not in any capacity (currently), the monitor though is able to accept the 4K output and downscale it to 1440p as oppose to other monitors that don't have this feature that take in a 1080p output and upscale, the former looking a lot better. To note though, you will have to turn off Freesync in the OSD whenever you want to avail of this feature which is a nuisance as when you switch back to your desktop, you then have to turn it back on (obviously for VRR gaming).

Now for the main seller, the 240Hz refresh rate at this resolution. If you have never tried any monitor with a refresh rate higher than 60Hz, I feel bad for you. Playing any fast-paced game e.g shooters which I mainly play, at 60Hz now makes me sick (not literally). I made the jump to this monitor from 144Hz and have used 165Hz, is the difference night and day? No. Is there a difference? Yes aswell as the response times of this monitor being a lot better than the other monitors I used before. I'd check out Hardware Unboxed's review on this monitor to see just how good the response times are on this monitor especially for a VA monitor which are typically the slowest panel technology behind IPS and TN respectively.

VA though does provide the best contrast ratios offering deep blacks and this monitor rated at 2500:1 contrast ratio provides that but YMMV. This monitor does have HDR functionality but with a HDR 600 certification while looking better than SDR is nothing to write home about.

Lastly the curve at 1000r may seem intimidating which it also did for me is something you can get used to and honestly a bonus for immersion in single-player games. There is a slight distortion you'll notice on the desktop or reading text in where it will look warped due to curve but nothing to complain about.

All in all, you do get a very good product in Odyssey G7, what you pay for and then some in my opinion and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for an endgame monitor as it will last you years.

He dado muchas vueltas buscando monitores al final me me he decidido por este y es mejor de lo que me esperaba.

Os pongo mi opinión personal:

*240hz
* 1 milisegundo de respuesta
* 32 pulgadas
* Curvo
* G-Sing/fressing con trajetas gráficas
* Filtros de vídeo
* Punto de mira virtual
Etc etc
